APS, along with the City of Albuquerque and the current developer have failed to provide reasonable responses and/or
solutions to our concerns.
Current concerns include but are not limited to the following:
Increased crime brought by stadium-goers and sports complex users as well as excess crime which will follow
business development. APD has experienced budget cuts. They have also admitted being short-staffed and
unable to have officers respond effectively and in a timely manner (unless the situation is life or death).
Increased noise in an area which has been scientifically proven one of the noisiest places in Albuquerque due to
noise from I-40 traveling across the field, hitting the rocks which make up Petroglyph National Monument and
reverberating back through the field.
Decreased property values as admitted by APS Chief Operating Officer and City Counselor, Dr. Brad Winter.
The current budget for the project vs the money that APS actually has to complete the project.
APS has a proven track record of NOT maintaining their properties very well. Who is going to pay for the stadium
and sports complex to be staffed, sustained, and maintained?
Will our taxes be raised?
Will our property values be reassessed to benefit the city? When APS runs out of money which has happened
before, someone will have to pay.
Our water pressure is often inadequate. The stadium/sports complex is slated to leech from our neighborhood
water source. What is being done to address the water pressure issue?
Traffic. Current traffic study finding suggest that there is NO traffic problem at Unser Blvd between 6am and
6pm. While the 98th Street/ I-40 exit received a failing grade.
We seek to avoid the traffic mess which currently exists at Volcano Vista High School. We seek to avoid the I-25
debacle. When I-25 was finally opened for public use, it was already obsolete. This is due to poor planning and
looking at the smaller picture or the city’s needs vs the larger picture.
The current site for the stadium is with Petroglyph National Monument View Area. APS has refused to follow
Environmental Planning Commission guidelines stating that they are exempt. EPC guidelines were created to
protect us and our environment. APS has to follow OSHA regulations, Health Department restrictions, Fire
Marshal mandates etc. There is no difference. EPC guidelines are in place to protect us and our environment.
Public Safety: Currently planned, there is one lane in and one lane out of the stadium. This is an issue of public
safety. If someone is injured or becomes ill during an event, first responders will be unable to get to their
patient.
We are not against APS or APS sports programs. This project will affect our neighborhood like no other. We deserve
fair a reasonable solution to our concerns. We deserve the respect an consideration that any one would expect.
