DRAMATIZATION Dramatization can be a direct substitute by the means of using dramatization rather than direct experience to teach vocabulary.

A Hinting Strategy is a simple way that can be used to dramatize words:  1st Step - A series vocabulary words are orally taught and discussed with

the students.

2nd Step - The teacher distributes cards to each student, pairs of students, or groups of students. The teacher should have previously written the name of the new vocabulary words discussed on each card. Each group of students receives one card with one vocabulary word written on it.

3rd Step : The teacher tells the students or groups to create sentences or phrases that “hint” around what the target word is. Students can brainstorm up to four or five sentences.

Page 3: Dramatization

DRAMATIZATION 4th Step : The new vocabulary words are then written on the

chalkboard.   5th Step : The groups of students or each student then individually

shares their “hints” by orally stating the sentences.

6th Step : The class then as a whole tries to identify which vocabulary word that group was given.
