In order for you to make a drawing you have to use drawing tools.

I have here a word hunt puzzle. Take a look at it and then find the names of the drawing tools.

Class the words that you have seen in the puzzle has something to do with our lesson today. Those are drawing tools/materials use in mechanical drawing. Please listen Attentively because later on we will have our examination.

Now who can tell what drawing material is this?(Show a picture of a Masking Tape.)

Thats right! Its a Masking Tape. Class, why do we use masking tapes?

We use Masking Tapes to fasten the drawing paper on the drawing table or drawing board.

Class do you know what is this?(Show a picture of a Drawing Paper.)

This is called a Drawing Paper. A drawing paper is used in drawing. Oslo paper is commonly used but bond paper is also recommended.

Now what drawing tool are you going to use when you want to draw in a Drawing Paper?

That correct! The right tool is Pencil.Remember class that you cant draw without it.

Now class if you want to remove dirt in your drawing. What tool are you going to use?

Very good! Erasers are use to remove dirt in your drawing.

Class what drawing tool are you going to use when your pencil is showing signs of dullness?

Thats right! Pencils should be sharpened whenever they show signs of dullness.

Class are you familiar with Triangular Scales?

This is a Triangular Scales(Show a picture of a Triangular Scales.)

Triangular Scales main function is to reproduce the measurements of an object in full size, reduced size, and enlarged size.

This is an Erasing Shield it is a useful tool to protect the rest of the drawing when clearing up smudges, unnecessary pencil lines and other erasures.

Those are Drafting Materials/Tools.

Class this Drawing instrument is called a T-square it is used when making horizontal lines.

Now class if you want to measure angles and arcs what drawing tool are you going to use?

That right! Protractor is the right drawing instrument to use.

Class this is a Triangle it is a three-sided ruler. It is usually made of plastic and comes in different sizes.

Triangles has two equal sides meeting at a 90 degree angle and to a third at 45, 30, including 60 degree angles.

Okay class when you want to draw a straight lines what drawing instrument is the best to use?

Very good! A Ruler.We use it to draw straight lines and it is the most popular type of measuring tool.

Now class do you know what drawing instrument is this?(Show a picture of a Divider.)

This is called a Divider. It is used when transferring measurements, dividing lines and arcs into the desired number of equal parts.

Class are you familiar with Compass?

Okay, Compass is use in drawing arcs and circles. It is similar way to a divider. It is composed of one with the pen leg and the needle point leg being held together with a handle.

Do you know what drawing instrument is this? (Show a picture of a French Curves.)

It is a French Curve. It is used to connect endpoints of straight lines to form an arc.(Students raise their hands)
