Introduction

The purpose of this report is to get pitch and sell the idea to producers to get the film made. My film is called 'Absent Minded' and it is a thriller movie with little budget of about £30 which will come from my own pocket. When planning the film I did some primary and secondary research in order to plan and structure my short film.  This included looking at the viewers of a horror film playlist and look at the profiles of people who like horror movies. I then began researching new articles, songs, short stories and films for a story line to base my short film on. 

Film synopsis

The film is of a girl that wake up after being attacked. This will be told to the audience through a couple snippets of flashbacks from the day before. Her make up will hook the audience in at the very beginning. It will make her face look beaten and bruised.  She then tries to tell someone passing by what has happened to her only to find out that he cannot hear her. This will then lead to the twist ending. The person passing by will freak out and she will follow their gaze to see her dead body on the floor. This twist of an ending was influenced by a film called 'the sixth sense.' This is a film based on a little boy who can see dead people. At the end the main character finds out he is one of the dead people that the little boy sees. 

Film Rating 

This film is not going to be rated my the BBFC as it will be put on YouTube which is international but if it was it would probably be a 12 as it follows most of the guidelines that are shown on the BBFC It says that both the films tone and the amount of violence shown can affect the movie being rated as a 12. the tone is quite dark and sinister which follows the guidelines of a 12 and the film does not dwell but has some violence which also puts the movie into the 12 guideline

Primary Research 

In order to come up with and improve this short film I did some primary research when planning my film. I basically, looked at some social network site and profiles to see what sort of people like horror and what other like they possible have so that i could link them together and improve my film. The profiles showed me all of the people who like horrors/thrillers and some of their other likes. People who like horror tended to like music and supernatural things also. This led to my conclusion that my film would include something supernatural and maybe something musical. I then asked people about the final idea and noted down how they responded to it. People said it was a good idea but made some suggestions to help improve it. For example, some people said that the person should make a facial expression when the girl tries to talk to him as if he could see her but then

drop it and carry on walking in order to make it surprising. Another person said, when he discovers the body he should fall back and she should ask whats wrong before following his gaze in order to create suspense.

Secondary Research

I then did some secondary research. I looked at a horror playlist and looked at the you tube profiles of the people that liked, commented and subscribed to the channel. This was to see what sort of people like these horror movies. Majority of them were adults or at least young adults. 

The screen moment was hugely influenced by the end of the sixth sense which showed a mans realisation to the fact that he was a ghost. Before picking this screen moment, I research the film on IMBD that rated it 8.1 and showed that an extremely high amount of money was made off it. This suggested that my film would be more successful if it took the idea from this film. There are lots of trends that follow this genre that will be included into this short film. The editing will be quite slow and facial expressions will be shown for a while before big reveals in order to create suspense. 

Summery of all research (conclusion)

To conclude my research, based of the primary and secondary research that I have done which included me looking at social media site and YouTube, my target audience is going to be adults, some supernatural aspects such as the fact that the girl is a ghost will be included. The editing will be slow and there will be many trick revels to keep the film interesting and suspenseful.

Unique Selling Point 

The unique selling point is the fact that like the girl, we are confused meaning we are put into her position. The shock reveal is also a unique selling point because it creates surprise in the audience. The film also begins as a thriller and nobody expects anything supernatural to be in it which will surprise them. I feel this will be a success because the original film was quite successful and this one is a short version that will grab the audiences attention without losing them by being to long.

My film will be a single stranded movie with non-linear narrative because she will get flash backs of the day before. This will tell my audience what has happened in minimal time and represents how confused the main character will feel. The narrative will also be anti-realist because it is supernatural and isn't something that can happen on a daily basis. This narrative was chosen because when doing my research many people who like thrillers and horror also liked supernatural dramas. The ending of the short film will also be open because we never find out

what she does after finding out she is a ghost. This will leave the audience to interpret it in many different ways and make up their own ending. Finally, the film will be a continuity style film but interpret alternative techniques to make it more eye catching and exiting

Budget 

The budget of this movie will be pretty small and all come from my own pocket. All of the equipment and studio time will come free from the school, however, any props used will come from the films budget. It will cost about a maximum of 5 pound for make up, 20 pound in order to feed the actors so that they don't need to be paid and everything else is available for free at my house.  This comes to a total of about 25 to 30 pound.

Regulation & certification 

My film will not be rated as it will be uploaded to YouTube, which is international. However, if it was to be rated it would probably be a 12 as lots of thrillers are and it follows the basic guidelines for a 12 rated movie which i found by researching online at the BBFC website.

Revisions and changes/development of idea 

Since the film I wan to make is only short the overall story of the film it is based on had to be changed hugely. The majority of the film was disregarded and only the shock ending was kept as this was the moment that grabbed the audiences attention in the original movie. In the film, the guy is not attacked and does not see himself in dead form which happens in my short film. However. the initial twist is still included in this short film.

Locations 

There is only one location is this film and it is a woodland sort of area which is away from society which explains why her body had not yet been found. The location which i have picked is covers all of these requirements and not many people pass it which means that the film will not be interrupted by anyone.  

Distribution 

This film will be put on YouTube and entered into film festivals which will help the film be distributed among society. 

Evaluation 

To conclude, my idea is a short thriller film that was inspired by 'The Sixth Sense.' I choose this idea after doing lots of research including looking on peoples profile pages, watching other short horror film and looking at different websites to give me further insight into the genre. Within' this research i found that 'The sixth sense' was a very successful film and adapted that idea based on the other research I did. The final story showed a girl waking up and finding out she is actually dead. It will take about 25 to 30 pounds to make as most of the equipment is provided and it will be distributed among YouTube an various film festivals. It is a non linear, single stranded, anti realist short film with an exiting open ending. The story line is unique to others as we as an audience are left on the outside, just as confused as the main character and based on the ratings of the movie it is based on it is highly likely to be a success.
