The Canadian Council on Africa is proud to welcome the Vice-President of the Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo We congratulate the Government of Nigeria for their tremendous effort to recruit such a delegation of public and private sector leaders. This is the largest delegation from an African country to come to Canada, perhaps ever. Nigeria, the most populous country on the continent, comprises 5 times the population of Canada. This delegation demonstrates clearly to Canadians how much Nigeria considers our country to be an important partner on the world scene. We wish to thank sincerely H.E. Chief Ojo Uma Maduekwe, High Commissioner of Nigeria to Canada, for his vision and leadership in initiating and guiding the development of this very important event which will undoubtedly be viewed in the future as a milestone in the strengthening of relations between our two

Arc. Namadi Sambo, GCON, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Architect Mohammed Namadi Sambo was born in Zaria, Kaduna State on 2nd August, 1954. He started his early education in 1959 at the Baptist Primary School, Kakuri in Kaduna state and later went to Kobi Primary School, Bauchi and finally, Towns School, Zaria. In 1967 he attended Government Secondary School, Zaria (now Alhuda-Huda College) where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1971. From 1972 to 1973 he attended the School of Basic Studies at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.With the creation of Bauchi State in 1976, he joined the first set of architects that were involved in the design of various offices and staff housing schemes to accommodate the inflow of government officials. During this period, he was in charge of upgrading the Yankari Games Reserve Holiday Resort. He was also responsible for the Bauchi State Urban Development Board for development, control and the production of the Master Plan of Bauchi town and other cities in Bauchi State.With his experience in Bauchi state and having demonstrated his architectural competence in many areas, Arc. Namadi Sambo was appointed the Commissioner of Agriculture by the Kaduna State Government in February 1986 where he executed the World Bank assisted Kaduna Agricultural Development Project (KADP). The project helped to transform the State into a major food basket of the nation. He also developed the Strategic Grain Reserve projects and Forestry Development which helped to arrest the problem of desertification in the State.In 1988 he was reassigned to the Kaduna State Ministry of Works, Transport and Housing. In his commitment for service he completed the Kaduna Metropolitan expanded Water Supply Scheme and initiated the implementation of the World Bank assisted First Multi-State Water Supply Project for the benefit of the people. Before the expiration of his tenure, he initiated the Kaduna State 99 Towns Electricity Project which connected over 70 towns to the national grid.

In 1985, Arc. Namadi Sambo established an architectural firm called Environmental Design Consortium, which later metamorphosed into Coplan Associates. Up to 1986, when he was appointed the Honourable Commissioner of Agriculture by the Kaduna State Government, he was involved in the design and project management of several projects, which include: Housing complex for the special vehicle plant for the Federal Ministry of Defence at Bauchi; Industrial Training Fund, Zonal offices and various housing and office buildings.Arc. Namadi Sambo was elected the Executive Governor of Kaduna State and was sworn-in on the 29th May 2007. He had an 11-Point Agenda aimed at addressing the developmental and social needs of the people of Kaduna State. He also introduced Operation Yaki which was aimed at addressing the security problem of the State. Arc Mohammad Namadi Sambo became the vice president of the federal republic of Nigeria with The death President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua on May 5, 2010. He was sworn-in on May 6, 2010, as the Vice President of Nigeria.Arc Mohammad Namadi Sambo contested the April 16, 2011 presidential election on the platform of PDP as the running mate of President Goodluck Jonathan which they won with a gallant victory.Vice President Namadi Sambo has made financial and moral contributions to the training of young graduate architects in the country. He is also a contributor to the less privileged, motherless and the aged. He is married with six children.

Abdulfatah AhmedGovernor Kwara State – NIgeria

Abdulfatah Ahmed (born 29 December 1963) is a Nigerian banker and public servant who was elected Governor of Kwara State in the 26 April 2011 elections, running on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform.Ahmed was born on 29 December 1963 in Share, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. He attended Government College Funtua, Katsina State (1973–1978) and the school of Basic Studies of Kwara State College of Technology (now Kwara State Polytechnic), Ilorin (1978–1980). He went on to the University of Ilorin where he earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry (1986) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA, 1992).He was a lecturer in Organic Chemistry and later Acting Head of Department at Federal College of Arts and Science, Sokoto, in Sokoto State (1986–1990). He became an Assistant Manager at District Savings and Loans, Lagos (1991–1993). In 1993, he started work with Guaranty Trust Bank in the Credit and Marketing Unit. In 1998, he moved to Societe Generale Bank Nigeria as a Senior Manager/Group Head, Consumer Banking. Later he became Public sector Group for the North West region.

Rotimi AmaechiGovernor Rivers State – NIgeria

Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is a Nigerian politician, who became Governor of Rivers State in June 2007. He was previously Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 until 2007.[1] He ran successfully for reelection as River State governor on 26 April 2011. Amaechi was born in Ubima, in Ikwere local government area of Rivers state, and is an alumnus of the University of Port Harcourt. His wife, Judith Amaechi is active in promoting improvements to the status of women and children, and is sponsor of the Empowerment Support Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), that provides practical support and advice, particularly for the most disadvantaged. In the April 2007 Rivers State elections, Celestine Omehia of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was at first declared governor, but his election was later annulled and Chibuike Amaechi, also of the PDP, was declared governor. The decision of the Supreme Court to substitute Amaechi in place of Omehia was controversial.Amaechi ran successfully for reelection on 26 April 2011. He polled 1,178,529 votes, while the runner-up Celestine Omehia of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 112,528 votes.

Dr. Sam Amadi CEO – Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission

Dr. Sam Amadi was inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan on the 22nd of December, 2010 alongside six other commissioners (drawn from six geo-political zones of the country), after which he resumed office as Executive Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).He has served as technical expert/advisor on numerous high level committees and commissions, more recently on the US – Nigeria Bi-National Commission to ensure effective implementation of Nigeria-US bilateral agreements and engagements on democracy, transparency and accountability and good governance (June 2010). In March, 2011, he was appointed member of the Presidential Committee on Reform Processes in the Public Service in Nigeria. Included in his repertoire are numerous papers and publications on an array of topics ranging from rule of law and accountability, globalization, issue-based advocacy, human rights and privatization to name a few.

Honourable Olusegun Olutoyin AgangaMinister of Industry, Trade and Investment – Nigeria

Olusegun Olutoyin Aganga is the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Honourable Minister of Finance and the Chairman of the Nigerian National Economic Management Team (NEMT). As the Governor representing Nigeria on the Governing Boards of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, he was the Chairman of the Joint Board of Governors of the World Bank and the IMF during the October 2010 Annual Meetings. He also served as Governor on the board of the African Development Bank.He marshalled significant fiscal and budgetary reforms as the Honourable Minister of Finance, including the legal establishment of the Nigerian Sovereign Wealth Fund. While in charge at the finance ministry, Mr. Aganga successfully launched Nigeria’s first sovereign Eurobond offering and personally led the sales effort to institutional investors. He also oversaw the launch of an ambitious job creation strategy and commenced the country’s much needed fiscal consolidation process. As the Honourable Minister of Trade and Investment in Nigeria, Mr. Aganga successfully chaired the Eighth World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference in December 2011. The first time an African would chair this important assembly in its 16 years of existence.

Mr. Pierre Alarie joined CCC in November 2009 as Vice-President, Business Development and Sales. With almost 30 years of international business development experience, Mr. Alarie spent 17 years as an expatriate promoting and supporting Canadian exporters abroad. As a Trade Commissioner, he was posted in Lagos, Nigeria and Santiago, Chile. His 20 years in the private sector were spent mostly overseas contributing to the international successes of several Canadian companies such as Bombardier, SNC-Lavalin and Scotiabank. Mr. Alarie is fully trilingual in French, English and Spanish.

Dr. Sarah Omotunde AladeDeputy Governor (Economic Policy) – Central Bank of Nigeria

Dr. Sarah Omotunde Alade was appointed Deputy Governor (Economic Policy) Central Bank of Nigeria on 26th March, 2007. She attended the University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where she obtained a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Economics in 1976. She also obtained an M.Comm degree at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia in 1983 and a Ph.D Management Science (Operations Research), from the University of Ilorin in 1991.Dr. Alade was appointed Director, Banking Operations Department in May 2004. In that capacity, she served as Chairman Board of Directors, Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) as well as Secretary, National Payments System Committee (NPSC). Dr. Alade was a member of the Technical committee of the Vision 2010; currently a member of the Technical Committee of Vision 2020 and member of the National Economic Management Team (EMT).

Ambassador Olugbenga Ayodeji AshiruMinister of Foreign Affairs – Nigeria

Ambassador Ashiru was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in July 2011. Ambassador Ashiru joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June 1972, as a Third Secretary and went on to enjoy a successful career that spanned over three decades as a diplomat. During that period he held various positions and led several departments within the ministry. He also served at various Nigeria missions and participated in the United Nations General Assembly sessions as a representative from Nigeria.He was appointed the Ambassador to the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea in January 1991. Ambassador latter awarded the Order of the Republic of the People’s Republic of Korea in 1997. In July 1999, the French President awarded him the Commander of the Order of National Merit (Commanduer de L’Odre National de Merit).Ambassador Ashiru was appointed the Nigerian High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa and with concurrent accreditation to the Kingdoms of Lesotho and Swaziland by President Olusegun Obasanjo in August 2005. In March 2002 he served as a the Under Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of the Regions of the World and International Organizations directorate.

Godswill AkpabioGovernor Akwa Ibom State – Nigeria

Godswill Obot Akpabio completed his primary education at Methodist Primary School , Ukana, where he obtained a Distinction in the First School Leaving Certificate Examination. He was admitted into the prestigious Federal Government College, Port Harcourt, Rivers State and thereat completed his WAEC and GCE A’ Levels. Obong (Barr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, attended the University of Calabar , Calabar, Cross River State , and the Nigeria Law School , Lagos . He graduated in law and was called to the Nigerian Bar. Akpabio embarked on Legal Practice during his National Youth Service Corps year in Lagos and has since remained in practice. A devout Christian imbued with true greatness wrapped in simplicity and a strong, unshakable faith in the will of God. He has undoubtedly, latched onto the indelible footsteps of his grandfather, late Okuku Udo Akpabio, 1 st Warrant Chief in Ikot Ekpene province, his Uncle Late Dr. I. U. Akpabio, Minister of Education/Internal Affairs in the then Eastern Nigeria, and his cousin, Senator (Justice) Nsima Akpabio, of the Second Republic.

Alex Ball Managing Partner and Head of US Institutional Equity Sales – Edgecrest Capital

Alex Ball is Managing Partner and Head of US Institutional Equity Sales for Edgecrest Capital, an employee-owned private Canadian Investment Dealer boutique with and Investment Banking focus. Mr. Ball completed his Master of Business Administration in finance at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management in 2004 and obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from McGill University in 1998. His industry experience includes over $5 billion in global mining related transactions in equity and debt and M&A at UBS Canada, Macquarie Securities, and BMO Nesbitt Burns in addition to dealing with many of the largest buy side funds in New York City, London, and Asia. He also spent two years working with OMERS, a large Canada-based pension fund, as an Investment Analyst in Active Equities. Mark Cameron served as Director of Policy and Research, and Senior Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada from 2006-2009. He later worked for Ontario Power Generation as Director, Corporate Affairs and current serves as Director, Global Public Policy for Blackberry.Cameron has worked for several MPs and cabinet ministers, including the Hon. David Anderson and the Hon. Stephane Dion and in the Privy Council Office, and also worked as federal director of the High Park Group, a consultancy with a focus on environmental and energy policy.He holds a BA (Hons.) from McGill and MA in Political Science from UBC.

Paul BrennanVice-President, International Partnerships – ACCC

Paul Brennan currently holds the position of Vice-President, International Partnerships, at the ACCC. The ACCC is the national association and voice for the 130 public colleges, cégeps and institutes of technology in Canada who collectively reach 1.5 million learners per year in over 1,000 Canadian communities.He is responsible for the development and administration of all of ACCC’s international institutional partnership programs for its members, such as the Education for Employment Programs in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean region, and the Asian Development Bank funded projects to help countries in Asia, such as Vietnam and Cambodia, design and set up networks of colleges. He also leads ACCC’s initiatives to support colleges in their international student recruitment efforts, as well as to convince and support more Canadian students to study and intern abroad.Paul Brennan has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees specializing in modern Asian and African history, and a Master’s degree of Management at McGill University focusing on Leadership of National Not-for-profit Associations. He is fluent in French (mother tongue), English, Mandarin Chinese and some Brazilian Portuguese. He has also studied, lived and worked in China, Indonesia and Zimbabwe during his career.

Engr. Mustapha BelloExecutive Director of Nigeria Investment Commission

Former Minister of Commerce, Mr. Bello assumed the position of Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) in December 2003. In June 2005 he predicted that interest rate would fall to about 6% on completion of bank recapitalization in 2006. In July 2006 the Chinese Commercial Counselor Mr. Hu Yu Chen praised the NIPC in assisting Chines investors, and said that in 2005 trade between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China had exceeded $2.8 billion, making Nigeria China’s second largest trading partner. This was an increase from $1.45 billion 2001. In November 2009 Bello said that Nigeria was keen to cement business ties with Iran. In January 2010 Bello welcomed officials of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), who had come to discuss introducing the bank to stakeholders in Nigeria in the private and public sector. The bank aims to reduce poverty and promote economic development without any political attachment, in the same way as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. In February 2010 he met with officials of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Bank of Industry (BOI), who were discussing providing funding to develop the Nigerian palm oil, rice and textile sectors. In February 2010 he said the government would try to sustain targeted foreign direct investment (FDI), which was currently at N2.98 trillion.

Rupak ChattopadhyayPresident CEO – Forum of the Federation

Rupak Chattopadhyay [President and CEO] has master’s degrees in economics and political science from the University of Ottawa and the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) and did his doctoral work in political science at the University of Toronto. He was closely involved with the peace process in Sri Lanka and discussions on constitutional reforms in the Philippines in his previous capacity as Director Asia-Pacific programs. He was also a member of the Consultative Group on the Study of Intergovernmental Relations and Dispute Resolution Mechanisms, Inter-State Council, Government of India. He co-editor of the five-volume series covering the proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Federalism, entitled “Unity in Diversity: Learning from Each Other”. He is also co-editor of “Dialogues on Diversity and Unity in Federal Countries” and “Finance and Governance of Capital Cities in Federal Systems”.

Melissa T. Cook, CFA, is the Founder and Managing Director of African Sunrise Partners LLC. ASP is an investment strategy firm dedicated to sub-Saharan Africa. Our mission is to bring companies and institutional investors in to Africa to invest, grow and profit. We are a bridge between the American and African business communities, and we act as a matchmaker between contacts throughout our broad global network. We comment regularly for clients on how global themes are playing out in African markets. Ms. Cook has worked in the global equity business for over 25 years. She covered en-tertainment, broadcasting, housing, capital goods, and consumer products companies at Drexel Burnham Lambert, Prudential Securities and CLSA/Crédit Agricole. At CLSA, Ms. Cook was the Head of AsiaUSA Strategy, where she visited China regularly and wrote about the impact of China’s rise on multinational companies and global portfolios. She also worked as Head of Global Research at Lazard Asset Management. Ms. Cook has an A.B. degree in History from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. in Fi-nance from the Stern School of Business at New York University. She is a CFA charter-holder and holds FINRA Series 7, 16, 24, 63, 86, and 87 licenses.

Ron ClarkPartner and Member, Corporate/Commercial Group and Energy Team – Aird & Berlis

Ron’s corporate/commercial practice includes advising corporations, financial institutions, municipalities and individuals on commercial agreements, asset and share purchase transactions, mergers and acquisitions, private placements and secured lending transactions. Ron’s energy practice has involved counselling stakeholder groups, retailers, distributers and generators on legislative and policy matters relating to electricity markets. He has been retained in connection with power procurement arrangements, development of generation and cogeneration facilities and the Ontario government’s clean energy supply and renewable energy supply RFPs and contracts. He has been involved in electricity restructuring in Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Albania, Macedonia and the Regional Southeast European market. He has also chaired the Ontario Energy Association’s Task Force on Ontario’s proposed electricity legislation. Ron Previously served as a diplomat with the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, with postings in Ottawa and Brussels.

Joe ClarkFormer Prime Minister of Canada

Joe Clark rose quickly in federal politics, entering the House of Commons in the 1972 election and winning the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party in 1976. He came to power in the 1979 election, defeating the Liberal government of Pierre Trudeau (making him the only person to ever defeat Trudeau in a Federal election) and ending sixteen continuous years of Liberal rule. Taking office the day before his 40th birthday, Clark is the youngest person to become Prime Minister. His tenure was brief as he only won a minority government, and it was defeated on a motion of non-confidence. Clark subsequently lost the 1980 election and the leadership of the party in 1983.He returned to prominence in 1984 as a senior cabinet minister in Brian Mulroney’s cabinet, retiring from politics after not standing for re-election for the House of Commons in 1993. He made a political comeback in 1998 to lead the Progressive Conservatives before its dissolution, serving his final term in Parliament from 2000 to 2004. Clark today is recognized as a distinguished scholar and statesman, and serves as a university professor and as president of his own consulting firm.

Professor C.O. Onyebuchi Chukwu Minister of Health – Nigeria

Professor C.O. Onyebuchi Chukwu was appointed Minister of Health of Nigeria by His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in April, 2010.As Minister of Health, he championed the approval of the National Strategic Health Development Plan for the health sector by the Federal Executive Council of Nigeria and the signing of the International Health Partnership Plus (IHP+) Compact securing partners commitment to the implementation of the plan. He had served as Chairman of the Assembly of ECOWAS Health Ministers; the Regional Committee for Africa of the World Health Organisation; Board member, Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health; First Vice President of the 64th World Health Assembly and currently, the Chairman of the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) Nigeria of the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. He was the Chairman of the 60th Session of the Regional Committee for Africa of the World Health Organisation.

Ibrahim Hassan DakwamboGovernor Gombe State – Nigeria

Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo (born 4 April 1962) is a Nigerian who was elected Governor of Gombe State, Nigeria in the 26 April 2011 elections, running on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform.Dankwmbo was born on the 4 April 1962 at Gombe. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University in 1985 with a degree in Accounting. He obtained a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Lagos in 1992. He held this office until he resigned to start his campaign for election as Governor of Gombe State January 2011.In the 26 April 2011 election, Dankwambo won 596,481 votes, ahead of Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) with 91,781 votes and Senator Sa’idu Umar Kumo of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) with 84,959 votes.

He was Strategy Development Adviser at London’s City Challenge; research fellow at the African Research & Information Bureau in London, UK, reporter with the newspapers, The Guardian and City Tempo, editor of the political monthly, Nigeria-Now, management consultant at Development and Management Consultants and lecturer at the Police College in Sokoto, Nigeria. As a prominent leader of the Nigerian opposition to military rule in exile, he was responsible for the founding and management of the opposition radios – Radio Freedom, Radio Democracy International & Radio Kudirat and played a central role in the opposition’s diplomatic engagements in exile. An account of the process and roles played in the setting up of Radio Kudirat may be found in Fayemi’s book Out Of The Shadows.

Air Commodore Jonah David Jang (born 13 March 1944) was elected Governor of Plateau State in April 2007. He had previously served as Military Governor of Benue State and Gongola State. He ran successfully for reelection on 26 April 2011.Jonah David Jang was born on 13 March 1944 at Du in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. In 1965 he enlisted as an Air Force Officer Cadet at the Military Training School in Kaduna. He was given flying training at Uetersen in West Germany (1965–1966) and further training at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in 1969 and promoted to Lieutenant in 1970. He attended a course on Supply Operations Training (Logistics) in Denver, Colorado, United States and was promoted to Captain in 1972, Major in 1975 and Wing Commander in 1978, serving in most of the Nigerian air formations during this period. During the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida he served as Military Governor of Benue State from August 1985 to August 1986, then as Military Governor of Gongola State from August 1986 to December 1987. He voluntarily retired from the Nigeria Air Force in 1990. Jonah Jang took a Bachelor of Divinity Degree at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria (2000–2002). In 2007, he successfully contested the governorship election in Plateau State on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He ran successfully for reelection on 26 April 2011.

Originally trained as a nurse, Catherine has managed a range of health programs for more than 25 years. She has overseen the design, implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation of sexual and reproductive health programs in Pakistan, Brazil, El Salvador, Jamaica and Colombia. She worked for many years in Sudan, managing programs for Maternal and Child Health, National Control of Diarrheal Disease, National Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives and National Acute Respiratory Infection. She contributed to the write up of the situational analysis of women and children in Sudan and the Sudan Country Strategy Paper and Master Plan of Operation for 1997–2001. Catherine also participated in the design and development of a Safe Motherhood Initiative for the Middle East and North Africa. In Canada, Catherine has managed sexual and reproductive health programs and health services delivery and coordinated a program for women’s health research. Distinguished Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed a politician to the core was sworn in as FCT Minister on Wednesday April 7, 2010. He came on board as the 15th Minister of FCT, though an avowed democrat; the FCT Minister is a steely man of his own conviction, a dynamic leader with gift of eloquence and remarkable political will. He has greatly proved his mettle as a man of action and principle. Olusegun MimikoGovernor Ondo State – NIgeria

Dr Olusegun Rahman Abayomi Mimiko, Medical Practitioner, humanist, democrat, progressive patriot and Governor, Ondo State of Nigeria. Two years on as governor, he remains an enigma: a man with immense charisma, doggedness and a clear vision of where he wants to take Ondo State. A lone ranger of sorts: he abhors godfatherism – he has been the major champion of Labour Party in Nigeria and its ideology of social democracy, not power elite democracy (i.e. socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor). Two years on as governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has brought a new concept to governance, a new paradigm: his programmes and projects have people at the centre and these projects are important mainly for their IMPACT, reflecting his motivation for political office and what has become his political mantra – ‘I WILL WORK FOR YOU’! This is underpinned by a 12 point acronymic agenda, “A CARING HEART.” The vision of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, less than three years on, has turned to a mission with a string of accomplishments. Within the 3is initiative anchored by the newly created Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, he has executed a total of two hundred and thirty (230) community projects identified, prioritized by the people and implemented in conjunction with communities.

Although a fresh election was held on 29 April 2007, he was reappointed governor on 14 June 2007 after a court ruling that he should be allowed to complete a four-year term. Theodore Ahamefule Orji was elected Governor of Abia State, Nigeria, on May 29, 2007. Prior to his election, Orji, a career civil servant, served as the Chief of Staff to former Abia Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu. He was reelected as Governor on April 26, 2011.Theodore Ahamefule Orji was born in Amaokwe Ugba, Umuahia – Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State in 1950. He attended Santa Crux Secondary School, Olokoro, Holy Ghost College, Owerri and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of Ibadan in 1977. He enlisted for the National Youths Corps Scheme on graduation and was deployed to Sokoto State as a teacher at Government Secondary School, Shinkafi, Isa Local Government Area. On completion of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme in 1978, Orji began working as an Administrative Officer in the old Imo State civil service in December 1979. He subsequently served in various capacities in the Cabinet Office, Ministry of Lands and Survey, Ministry of Agriculture, and Imo State Government House.When Abia State was created in 1991, Orji returned to Umuahia where he served in Government House, Umuahia, Bureau of Budget and Planning and Ministry of Agriculture. Her clients included FAAN, NCAA, NAMA, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology Zaria (NCAT) as well as financial consulting for two merchant banks. In 1991 to 1992, Evelyn Oputu became an Executive Director, First Bank of Nigeria Plc in which her main assignment spanned all technical aspects of the Bank’s operations.An Executive Director in 1990 and chairman, committee on the financial management of Aviation Parastatals (2000 - 2001), Ms Evelyn Ndali Oputu, has also been a member of board of several buoyant companies which are engaged in a wide range of financial build-up. Mr. Schumann has over 33 years of utility experience. He is presently a project manager for Manitoba Hydro International, where he has managed various contracts / projects throughout Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, India, USA, Canada, and other locations. He has a solid background in plant maintenance and project management, both within the Utility sector and in the private sector. He was recently responsible for managing a team of 30 utility specialists charged with the task of researching and writing the 16 Milestone Deliverable Reports that form part of the Transmission Company of Nigeria Management Contract. Nwadiala Chukwuemeka Ngozichineke Wogu (Emeka Ngozi Wogu) was appointed Nigerian Federal Minister of Labour & Productivity on 6 April 2010, when Acting President Goodluck Jonathan announced his new cabinet.Wogu was born on 29 January 1965 in Umuahia, Abia State and completed his secondary education at Ngwa High School, Aba (1978-1980). He attended Imo State University (1982-1986) obtaining an LLB, and the Nigerian Law School (1986-1987) where he obtained a BL. In 1990 he established a private law practice, Emeka Wogu & Co. He earned his Masters in Public Administration at the University of Calabar (2001-2002). He holds several traditional titles including Omezuru of Ohazie, Kpakpandu of Aba, Nwadiala of Aba and Amulutto of Oshogbo.Wogu was vice-chairman of the Aba South LGA in Abia State (1991-1993), becoming chairman of the LGA in 1993. He was elected to the Federal House of Representatives in 1998. In 1999 he was briefly the political adviser to Orji Uzor Kalu, governor of Abia State. He represented Abia State for two terms as commissioner at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission. Immediately after being appointed Minister of Labour on 6 April 2010, Wogu had to deal with a strike by federal civil servants across the country that was planned to start on 8 April 2010. Audu Idris Umar (born 28 December 1959) was elected Senator for the Gombe Central constituency of Gombe State, Nigeria, taking office on 29 May 2007. He is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).Umar was born on 28 December 1959. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree In Law, and became a Barrister At Law. He was appointed State Counsel to the Ministry Of Justice, Bauchi. Umar was elected to the House Of Representatives in 1999, and was reelected in 2003. After taking his seat in the Senate for the 2007-2011 term, Umar was appointed to committees on Air Force (as Chairman), Federal Capital Territory, Finance and Judiciary and Human Rights & Legal Matters. In a mid-term evaluation of Senators in May 2009, ThisDay said only that he had no bill to his credit in past but had sponsored and co-sponsored motions. As chairman of the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Food Crisis, Umar visited the controversial Kafin Zaki Dam site in April 2009 and endorsed the dam’s construction. However, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan of Yobe North called on the committee to visit downstream users of the Jama’are River before taking a position. In August 2009 Senator Lawan spoke against the proposed dam. He stated that the Tiga and Challawa dams on the Hadejia River had already reduced downstream water flow drastically, and the Jama’are River was now the main source of water in the Yobe River. He said the dams caused intense poverty, increased desert encroachment, migration and conflicts between arable farmers and herdsmen.

From 2007 to 2012 he managed the establishment of the Centre for Health and Development at the University of Port Harcourt for the University of Toronto. UNIPORT’s Centre for Health and Developments conducts operations research in health to provide evidence for practice, influence policy direction, strengthen health systems, and promote entrepreneurial development in Rivers State and throughout the Niger Delta region. Aaron is currently the Program Manager of AMPATH-UofT in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. He earned his Master’s from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
