CURRICULAR INNOVATIONS, DEGREE AND COURSE DEVELOPMENT

Developed and designed the degree proposal for the new online Master of Music in Music Education Program, in review process with PASSHE. Graduate courses already approved include “Advanced Foundations of Music Education,” “Instructional Design and Learning Processes in Music,” “Research, Assessment and Evaluation in Music,” and “Psychology of Music.” The PASSHE Board of Governors accepted the proposal, and the MM in ME will be offered starting Fall, 2016.

Created interactive videos for students in Intro to Music, Overture to Musician Education, and student teachers that guide them through creating electronic portfolios (Overture students) and working in D2L . These have been very helpful because the students can review them as many times as needed, and there has not been any confusion They are available via my webpage at http://faculty.kutztown.edu/trolling.

Developed several new courses that will be added to the music curriculum: “Introduction to Musical Theatre” and “Advanced Arts Administration.”

Piloted and adopted a revised core assessment online for MUS 010 - Intro to Music Literature, based on the findings from the study from Spring, 2010. Revised again in 2013 to address the Critical Thinking competency that was added to the course. The pre and post-test assesses about 800 students each year on music listening skills development.

We have added a mid-tier assessment for all music education majors, for which I am in charge of organizing, scheduling, and assessing the data from the experience.

I also now use digital videography for students in their peer teaching. They are able to access the videos in a private viewing online format and use them to evaluate and assess their own teaching.

As a contrabassoonist, I have performed Ravel’s Beauty and the Beast several times and the opening to R.Strauss Also Sprach Zarathustra multiple times (not a big solo but one of the most famous).
