These coaches will collaborate and partner with the local district and school site instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and the community to ensure data-driven, results-based support services and programs are provided for all at-risk students. College and Career Coaches will primarily be responsible for identifying achievement gaps, utilizing multiple data points for early alert data to inform intervention and support, assisting the roll-out of English Language Arts (ELA)/ English Language Development (ELD), integrating instructional technology and providing a bridge of support as at-risk students transition into high school. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Provides professional development for principals, school teams, and teachers on intervention strategies, technology integration, and differentiated instruction utilizing the new ELA/ELD adoption. Facilitates learning management systems for lesson collaboration. Provides targeted and differentiated support and coaching on intervention, research-based instructional strategies, and technology. Facilitates the student transition from middle school to high school through supporting articulation and providing a positive transition between middle and high school to mitigate challenges and address the needs of all at-risk students e.g., English learners (ELs), standard English learners (SELs), students with disabilities, socioeconomically disadvantaged students. Provides training to school staff on data to inform instruction and address achievement gaps effective use of technology to enhance learning and engage at-risk students. Analyzes various data sources to identify early alerts and collaborate on the design of intervention to meet needs of at-risk students. Utilizes data on grades, attendance and behavior to guide dropout prevention and intervention efforts. Implements a multi-tiered behavior and academic support system to close the achievement gap, eliminate drop-outs and provide equity and access for at-risk students. Uses early alert system to identify at-risk students, especially during transitional stages between elementary, middle and high school Works collaboratively with local district and school staff to plan for and implement literacy/ELA instruction, access strategies and multi-tiered systems of support for all at- risk students, including foster youth and other targeted student populations. Collaborates with academic counseling and other support service personnel to monitor/support the completion of Individual Graduation Plans for middle school students.

• Demonstrates and models differentiated instructional practices utilizing newly-adopted materials.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary: Teacher Preparation Salary Table; C-Basis; 204 paid days, 6-hour assignment • In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change

may result in an annualized “settlement”(i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).

• For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.

Minimum Requirements: • Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District • Five (5) years of successful full-time K-12 public school teaching experience • One of the following valid California teaching credentials or authorizations which permits teaching

in the subject area of English: o Single Subject Teaching Credential in English o Supplementary Authorization in English (requires 20 semester units of eligible coursework) o Introductory Subject Matter Authorization in English (requires 32 semester units of eligible

coursework) o Middle School Authorization in English (requires 12 semester units of eligible coursework)

• English Learner Authorization • A valid driver license and the ability to travel to various sites throughout the District

Desirable Qualifications:

• Knowledge of English Language Arts (ELA) and English Language Development (ELD) • Experience as teacher leader, Local District literacy/ELA team member, Literacy Coach,

Common Core Fellow or Common Core Expert • Experience with collaborating, coaching, creating, and communicating with teacher

colleagues around content standards, instruction, intervention and strategies for at-risk youth

• Experience with analyzing data, including attendance, achievement and discipline. • Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and

socioeconomic groups • Ability to understand and apply principles of adult learning to design and deliver relevant,

engaging, and differentiated professional development • Ability to be persistent, creative, and open in establishing relationships and building

partnerships among all stakeholders • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and resourceful to ensure technology integration offers an

effective teaching and learning best practices model in support of student success • Ability to demonstrate how using technology through 21st century teaching and learning will ensure

all at-risk students will be college and career ready • Ability to interpret and use data for the purpose of improving student achievement and

informing instruction • Knowledge and understanding of the instructional strategies that promote accelerated

achievement of English learners, Standard English learners, students with disabilities and socioeconomically disadvantaged students

• Knowledge of Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtI2) to promote literacy/ELA proficiency for at-risk students

• Familiarity with the Teaching and Learning Framework • Excellent oral and written communication skills
