Horizons Consulting Service, LLC. He is a highly acclaimed international clinical psychotherapist, relationship expert and corporate consultant. Over the past 16 years, he has dedicated his life to helping individuals, couples and corporate leaders build healthy relationships by providing world-class empathy and resiliency consulting. Dr. Buckingham is well respected among his professional colleagues and is known as "The Empathy and Resiliency Doctor or The E.R. Doctor".

As a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force for nearly a decade, Dr. Buckingham provided psychological assessments, treatment and psycho-educational training to over 20,000 individuals, couples, groups, and families worldwide. In recognition of his expertise as a superb psychotherapist and consultant, Dr. Buckingham received six Commendation medals, a National Defense Service Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and five Achievement/Unit Medals.

He has provided training and consulting services for various organizations including United States Public Health Services (USPHS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Health Resource and Service Administration (HRSA), United States Air Force, First Baptist Church of Glenarden, Habitat for Humanity, The Bowman Francis Ministry, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Dr. Buckingham holds a B.S.W. in Social Work from Jackson State University, a M.S.W in Clinical Social Work from Michigan State University, a Ph.D. in Human Services from Capella University and is Board Certified by the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work. He is a highly sought-after speaker, author, film producer, seminar facilitator and life skills consultant. He is also an active member of the National Association of Social Workers and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Trained, coached and advised hundreds of executive military officers, senior administrators and front line supervisors from various military branches on how to improve employee morale and performance.

Developed a 1 hour and 20 minute on-line Continuing Education Module entitled, “Veterans in Treatment: Providing Evidenced-Based PTSD Intervention” for the National Association of Social Workers. The continuing education course aims to provide all social workers with a basic understanding of major mental health issues and psychotherapy practices as they relate to returning veterans and their families. Conducted workshop entitled, “The Empathic Leader: An Effective Management Model for Enhancing Morale and Increasing Workplace Productivity” at the 2014 National Association of Social Workers Conference, Social Work: Courage, Hope and Leadership.

Keynote Speaker for 30th Annual Social Work Month Celebration. Facilitated several self-awareness seminars and conducted two film screenings at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi.

Facilitated a seminar entitled, “Unconditional Love: What Every Woman and Man Desires in a Relationship” during the Healthy Marriage Conference sponsored by Better Family Life located in St. Louis, MO.

Designed and delivered “Youth Development Training” including material on community leadership and violence, social etiquette, college preparation, public speaking, personal development and vocational training for high school males enrolled in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc Columbia (MD) Alumni’s Guide Right Youth Program.

Facilitated a seminar entitled, “A Black Woman’s Worth: My Queen and Backbone” for STAR MINISTRY to help teen girls and young ladies understand their worth. Also, participated as a panelist for LIFE BUILDERS MINISTRY to help couples move forward in life, love and relationships.

What Are Healthy Life Skills?

Healthy Life Skills are those traits that enable individuals to face and deal with adversity or life challenges in a healthy and positive manner. Some individuals are very good at expressing themselves assertively, solving problems, maintaining a positive attitude, forgiving others, setting goals and managing stress effectively. These healthy life skills are invaluable and are easily acquired by some, while others may struggle to exhibit these skills.

What Does a Life, Relationship or Executive Coach Do?

Basically a coach is a guide who can help you develop healthy life skills and increase awareness of your personal strengths. The primary goal of the coach is to help individuals gain insight into effective ways of coping with personal, occupational, relational, family, parent-child or interpersonal challenges.

Through a collaborative relationship, our coaches will work with you to create a plan that will enable you to maximize and enhance your current skills while also developing new healthy life skills. Through self-reflection and coaching you will learn to identify and utilize coping skills that will enhance your lifestyle.

How Is Coaching Different from Traditional Psychotherapy?

Coaching simply adds another facet to the coping skills you currently posses. Coaching is not counseling or psychotherapy. Instead coaching focuses on effecting change in a client's current and future behavior. Furthermore, coaching does not involve diagnosing or treating mental illness or dysfunction.

If you request or desire to receive mental health treatment, a referral to specialty mental-health provider will be made immediately. Communication with the coach is strictly confidential. However, threats of self-harm or violence toward others will be addressed and reported to appropriate legal and/or mental health authorities.

Does your company accept insurance as payment for life skills or executive coaching?
