"Monitoring through Experimentation" Please respond to the following:

Assume you are the program chair of an employment program for students who did not graduate high school but earned a GED (Government Equivalency Degree). You have limited resources and want to determine the factors that ensure students succeed in their jobs. Explain to the program director how the “tiebreaking” experiment might allow the program to uncover that information.

Develop a hypothetical example, not described in the textbook, that illustrates how and why to apply regression-discontinuity analysis. Discuss how the analysis helps to answer pertinent questions about the example.

Tiebreaking is an experiment in which the scare resources are randomly allocated to a small number of persons who have identical situation or have the same level of needs. The example given in the books is five students with the same identical sample score of tests with the GED certificate who need to be admitted into the programs but the program only need three students. With the limitation of resources, I will definitely considered the five students using other metrics used by the programs like testing the students through the programs requirements in the school and determine who is best suited for the program based on the results obtained through the testing score. This will also ensure fairness and best practices so that all the candidates can compete through academics capabilities. As the chair of the employment programs, I will explained to the directors that this is best ways of selected the students based on the budget and the number of students that we may admit each semester. The tiebreaking along with the programs requirements will ensure that every student have the opportunity to compete and earned the spots through their own capabilities instead of being giving the seats without any criteria being used. It is these academics testing that the program that the schools may uncovered some of the students strengths and weaknesses to help them in their academics journey.

Regression discontinuity analysis is a set of graphical and statistical procedures used to compute and compare estimate of the outcomes of policy actions undertaken among the two or more groups meaning that one group may be expose to actions while the other is not. Let's say X Elementary has a higher mean test score than Y Elementary. Your first reaction might be to say that the kids at X are smarter. But a bigger standard deviation for one school tells you that there are relatively more kids at that school scoring toward one extreme or the other. By asking a few follow-up questions you might find that, say, X's mean was skewed up because the school district sends all of the gifted education kids to X. Or that Y's scores were dragged down because students who recently have been "mainstreamed" from special education classes have all been sent to Y. In this way, looking at the standard deviation can help point you in the right direction when asking why information is the way it is. This can help also explained the

outcome of the funding for the two scores and how the legislature appropriate money to eaxh schools district and the states as whole.
