Project Overview
• Existing bridge constructed in 1968
• Existing is a single span CIP concrete bridge
• 2004 Inspection showed substructure and channel rated in serious condition
• Need to replace structural deficient bridge over Ajayan River
• New bridge will be longer and wider
• Channel will be armored for scour and erosion resistance

Key Project Features • New 105’ single span Pre-stressed AASHTO Girder Bridge • New pre-stressed concrete pile foundations for improved
scour vulnerability • Armored channel banks • Wider bridge which includes 2-12’ travel lanes and 8’
shoulders • New concrete bridge railings and approach slabs • Approx. 350 ft of new pavement • New striping, signs and guardrail for improved safety and
access • Relocation and accommodation of existing utilities on the
new bridge

• Environmental Mitigation • Within coastal tidal area • Nearby wetlands need to be protected (Section 401 &
404 permits acquired, permit conditions to be implemented.)
• Archeological monitoring • Biological monitoring prior to start of work • Turbidity monitors will be used during construction • Construction BMPs will be included
