InconnectionwiththesecondSaint‐GermaindesPrésPhotoFestivalbasedupononthetheme"TravelandDreams",theGallerywillproposeadialoguebetweentwoartists,eachprovidingauniquewayandunusualsensitivitytocontemporaryphotography.Offeringtheviewertothinkagainaboutthenotionofdistanceinthebeliefthatonehasoftravel,wewilldiscoverwithdelight:

‐TheinfinitelyclosethroughtheworksofPeterZupnik,whichbyhispointofviewenchantsNaturewhichhasbecamecommonplace:intransforminganutshell,adeadleaforatreebarktobecomethesubjectoflittlefantasticscenes,theseworkssuggestfullofpoeticalinterpretations.Heemphasizesthatfantasywithaverysubtlepastelfixedtothesilverprints

‐TheinfinitelyfarawayevokedinthelandscapesofTimHall‐exhibitedforthefirsttimeatARCTURUSGallery‐immerseourgazeintothevastnessoftheSaharaDesertorintotheinfinitehorizonofthesea,evokingdistantworlds,butnonethelessveryreal,withararesuggestivepowerandveryfewlittlemeans.ThisattachmenttopictorialMinimalismenablesthetraveler‐photographerTimHalltosaythemoretheimageissimple,themorepowerfulitbecomes.HequotesthepaintingsofMarkRothkoasfoundingelementsofitsapproach.

Bornin1961inLevoca(Slovakia).Intheyears1976‐1980hestudiedphotographytotheHighSchoolofArtandCraftofKosice.From1981to1986hepursuedgraduatestudiesinartphotographyattherenownedUniversityFAMUinPrague.Since1988heismemberofMostVisualArtsGroup,anddevelopsaworkimbuedwithaverypersonalpoetryoftheabsurdandatypicallyslavichumor.HeisconsideredbyDanielaMrázková,asoneofthemostimportantphotographersoutoftheFAMUinthe80s(cf.ParisPhoto,No.11,November‐December2000).

"By capturing the reality in live with the photographic technique, Zupnik Peter has created a reservoir of images whose 

he draws the present and future visions. His themes, these are faces, animals, objects, plants, buildings and fruits. His 

method is to particularize the banality. It gives clear priority within the model as it is for him an original poetic 

depiction. He wants to create another reality and find the secret of space and time."

TheinfinitelyfarobservedinthelandscapesofTimHall

TimHallstudiedatManchesterUniversityandaftergraduatingworkedasajazzandrockphotographerdocumentingmusicianssuchas,MilesDavisandPrince.Duringthe1990'shelivedandworkedinSouthEastAsiaandtravelledextensivelywithintheregiondevelopinghisportraitsofthelocalinhabitants.Later,hejourneyedtoIndiatofollowthelifeoftheindigenouspeopleofVaranasi,capturingscenesofworshippersintheriverGanges.

Tim'sinterestinlandscapephotographybeganwithhisMoroccanproject,'DunesandOasis',withtheresultingblack‐and‐whitephotographsoftheAtlasMountainsandtheSaharadesert.Closertohome,in2006TimbeganfocussingontheBritishlandscape.InspiredbyRothkoandTurner,the'Coast'seriesintendedtoinvokeanemotionalresponsetothenaturalenvironment.Thefascinationwiththeseacontinuedwiththe'Storm'seriesof2007,ashepicturedthenaturalworldinanabstractmanner,blurringthelinebetweenphotographyandpainting.
