Speaker for July 17th, 2011 - Megan Heazlewood -

Crop Circles are a True Enigma

Megan Heazlewood has been study-ing the Crop Circle phenom-

enon since the year 2000, and visited Wiltshire, England in the summer of 2006 and 2007 to experience the Crop Circle phenomenon first hand. She is a registered nurse, and an artist who un-derstands the logistics of doing art on a large scale.

“What I have witnessed, what I have per-sonally experienced and what I have learned from researchers in the field has led me to believe that there is an enormous amount of infor-mation based on scientific and physical evidence to be acknowledged and given respect to.”

Topics include:* How in human nature we are reluctant to accept new ideas and what this has to do with the crop circle phenomenon.* What researchers from diverse backgrounds contribute to our understanding of the phenomenon.* The history of crop circles.* The media and hoaxing.* Are we alone in the universe?* Scientific analysis of plants and soil.

From the President

As I write, it is the Winter Solstice, a time when the Druids in the Northern hemisphere celebrated the birth of the Mabon, the divine

child of light, later adopted by a new religion as Christmas. For astrolo-gers it marks a Cardinal Grand Cross in the sky with the Sun in Cancer

opposite Pluto in Capri-corn, and Uranus in Ar-ies opposite Saturn in Li-bra.

The world is very volatile and with Uranus (sudden change) in Aries (let’s get going) and Pluto (trans-formation) in Capricorn (the world’s structures)

tension is produced between Mercury (communication) in Cancer (com-passion) and Saturn (order) in Libra (justice). It need not mean conflict though. It can lead to reconciliation.

We can also visualise where we are going, hear the voice within, take back our power and evolve and grow. Today Mars moved into Gemini, the sign of communication, which means that many new ideas are com-ing in, so we need to stay centred and not become overwhelmed.

We can advance spiritual ideals like freedom of expression, and the idea that we are responsible and accountable for one another. Today reminds us of a greater collective consciousness and that our inner transforma-tion is being energised by external events, caused by fundamentalist sys-tems of government and law arising from religious dogma and economic privilege.

It is very helpful to remember that we are powerful spiritual beings well

Page 4: Dowsers Society of NSW Inc. Newsletter July 2011 Newsl… · 10 The Joy of Sensitive Living 13 Garlic, The Healing Plant 15 Beneath the Nasca Lines 20 The Triple Filter Test 23 Dowsing

able to increase our consciousness and awareness. We can reshape our individual and collective mind to order new priorities, bringing more freedom and fairness into the world, peace and harmony, with measures that benefit not the usual few but the whole of humanity. People want transparency and accountability from their leaders.

We have to live through these times. Well, we chose to live in these times so that we could bring a new world into being, one of peace and har-mony. As always it starts with ourself. Let’s avoid being judgemental and remain optimistic that all will be well.

It is a high point in the year, a time to pause and reflect and to celebrate the progress we have made, I mean as a Society. At the next meeting I want to spend some time asking you to share your vision for the future of our Society. We will have what used to be called a brain storming ses-sion.

I want you to think about the kind of Society we are, how it should change to help each individual member to fulfill their own destiny, how we can serve one another and how we can serve the world at large. In 6 months time I shall be handing over to a new President and I want to go forward with a shared vision for the future.

• There are those who make things happen.

• There are those who watch things happen.

• There are those who wondered what happened...

In a world of change, let’s all join together to make things happen and create something better for ourselves. See you at the meeting then.

Best wishes

Noel

Another Way to Look at Radiation...

With radiation from Japan spreading around the world there are health con-cerns, particularly in the northern hemisphere. This article reprinted from

Markus Rothkrantz’s website with permission

Don’t Fear Radiation!

The earthquakes, radiation, economy crumbling etc is only the begin-ning. THIS IS NOT BAD.

Human suffering is not pleasant and I do not like seeing anyone in pain of any kind. Let’s get over the pain part quickly so I can get on with the important message. What we are going through is ‘birth pains’. It’s bloody. It’s a mess. And when we make it through the birth canal, we will no longer be in a place of darkness, but in the light.

I was flown to a secret military base as a consultant to the 9th Civil Sup-port team. Who are they? They are the first responders to a weapons of

mass destruction attack (chemical, bio-logical, nuclear etc). These are the first guys who go in with special vehicles wearing hazmat radiation suits. They are the elite. Trained by the govern-ment. Our country depends on them and whatever they say over the radio. What was I flown down there for to teach them? True health and nutrition.

Did you know there are still people alive today from the Hiroshima nuclear blast? And yet kids are dying of cancer in this country because they live a

standard modern toxic lifestyle and eat dead microwaved RADIOAC-TIVE foods.

The world is falling apart. There are clumps of plastic waste miles wide floating in the oceans. Almost every inch of the planet is toxic now, and I don’t just mean physical, I mean emotional and mental.

This must change.

Life as we know it cannot continue. We know it, the Earth knows it, and the Universe knows it. Notice what I said. Life as we know it. You see, life never ends. It just changes form. You can’t stop change. But you CAN change the direction in which things are going. If you set a good exam-ple to others, they will follow. And people the world over are desperately looking for direction. The first lesson is DON’T RUN FROM A PROB-LEM. That doesn’t fix anything, and if we learn anything from nature- if we run from something, it will run after us and kill us. Step one is NO FEAR.

I am writing a book about this, but put simply, how you feel changes everything. Everything.

Everything is energy. Science has proven it. Spirituality and religion teaches it. Radiation is not an enemy. It’s just radiation.

People emit a form of radiation. The sun is radiation. Every thing in the universe radiates. It is the essence of life. How do you survive anything? You resonate with your environment. Fish resonate with water. Birds resonate with air. I personally resonate with light. I thrive in light. I live in the desert with 360 days of blazing heat and sunlight. I live in a city not far from where EIGHT HUNDRED NUCLEAR TESTS were done over 40 years ! I am not afraid of it. People say the economy is collapsing and I need to run to Ecuador. I don’t run from anything. This world is what we make of it and I choose to make it something really amazing. I can get into quantum physics, but let me just boil it down to this:

Page 7: Dowsers Society of NSW Inc. Newsletter July 2011 Newsl… · 10 The Joy of Sensitive Living 13 Garlic, The Healing Plant 15 Beneath the Nasca Lines 20 The Triple Filter Test 23 Dowsing

1. Stop doing bad things2. Start doing the right thing.3. Clean out and seriously simplify your life

Keep doing this over and over and never stop. You will be invincible. It will clear your mucky energy. It will set you free. It will make you an ex-ample to others. They will copy you. It will change the world. Look at Gandhi.

What’s happening in the world? Exactly what needs to happen. The old way of doing things isn’t working anymore. We need to simplify our greedy selfish consumption. The killing of other life forms for our own selfish needs is a joke.

What will people find when their homes, money, job and relationships are taken away? Life!

We have become so reliant on things out-side of ourselves. We rely on grocery stores and restaurants for our food. We rely on pills and doctors for our health. We rely on the government, banks and jobs to save us financially. We rely on other people’s opinions to tell us we are OK and loved. Any time you depend on ANYTHING outside of yourself for se-curity, peace and happiness, you are setting up yourself and everything around you for disaster. And the world is one big disaster right now.

The Earth is doing what it has to, to wake us up. People in Japan- one of the most technologically advanced countries on the planet, suddenly found themselves without a home. And they are taking it quite well. They are not looting. They are not crying “Oh poor me”. They are also one of the most sophisticated mature countries in the world. This was

Page 8: Dowsers Society of NSW Inc. Newsletter July 2011 Newsl… · 10 The Joy of Sensitive Living 13 Garlic, The Healing Plant 15 Beneath the Nasca Lines 20 The Triple Filter Test 23 Dowsing

not a coincidence. They are setting an example for the rest of the world. They are the first.

There are many more wake up calls on the way. Many many more things are happening in a short time.

Surf the wave of life my friends, be-cause this is an evolutionary storm that will once and for all clear some serious old school crap out of this world. The only way we can survive is to adapt, flow, simplify and ......

LIVE THE WAY NATURE INTENDED !!!!!!!

It’s what I have been saying all along in my book ‘Heal Yourself 101’. Because healing the world starts with YOU.

Stop worrying about nuclear fallout and earthquakes. They are just the background setting of the movie you are in. Of course be smart, like:

* Eat lots of seaweed, to chelate the radiation and supply iodine, potas-sium and sodium

* Take my Charconite - a super powerful mixture of charcoal and ben-tonite to help absorb radiation and carry it out of your body

* Stop eating and doing toxic things that lower your energy- sugar, milk, bread, flour, cooked foods, negative energy, bad relationships, electrical fields, etc

Just do what I say in my book ‘Heal Yourself 101’ and you will be 100% ahead of everyone else.

I just read a beautiful letter from a girl in Japan in the middle of the dis-aster. The last line in her letter says it all:

Page 9: Dowsers Society of NSW Inc. Newsletter July 2011 Newsl… · 10 The Joy of Sensitive Living 13 Garlic, The Healing Plant 15 Beneath the Nasca Lines 20 The Triple Filter Test 23 Dowsing

“My brother asked me if I felt so small because of all that is happening. I don’t. Rather, I feel as part of something happening that much larger than myself. This wave of birthing (worldwide) is hard, and yet magnificent. Thank you again for your care and Love of me.”

The light is coming. Call it whatever you want, but the big change for humanity is happening. Live in the power of the light or perish. Even if you did, remember- this is all just a video game. You will not cease to ex-ist- just the video game you were playing.

So lighten up, the world as you know it depends on it.

Seminar ReminderOn July 31 we have our Scientific Dowsing seminar. Both beginners and advanced dowsers will be able to learn new and practical ways to decode the invisible energies around them. A registration form is available on the Seminar page of our website at www.dowsingaustralia.com

Since the seminar is very ‘hands on’, we only have room for 20 students, (that’s how many Scientific Dowsing Kits we have), so if you are inter-ested, do not waste any time and register now, you will not regret it.

The location is the usual meeting hall in Gladesville, a map is printed at the back of this newsletter for your convenience.

The Joy of Sensitive LivingBy Alanna Moore

For the past 26 years I have worked as a geomancer, assessing and bal-ancing the subtle energies of places with pendulum dowsing and

meditational attunement. It’s akin to feng shui, but not formula orient-ed. A geomantic reading of a place seeks out the actual inherent energies there, so it’s rather more indigenous than informed by Chinese cultural conditioning, as feng shui is. It thus requires openness and keen sensitiv-ity. You never know what might show up. I often find high-tech radia-tion, or geopathic stress from unhealthy underground energies; or per-haps a desecrated sacred site that’s causing ‘bad vibes’.

On the other hand, beneficial energies can also be created or amplified, harnessed for enhancing plant growth in the garden or for making one’s own backyard a sacred site. Thus the hundreds of ‘Towers of Power’ I’ve been helping to create around Australasia and elsewhere (modelled on the ancient Round Towers of Ireland) have had some noteworthy effects for farmers and gardeners. I wrote a book on the subject in 2001 ‘Stone Age Farming eco-agriculture for the 21st century’.

For the past 22 years I have also been a keen permaculture practitioner. Permaculture is the ethical design of sustainable culture, mostly prac-ticed in the form of eco-smart gardening systems. Developed in Aus-tralia in the 1970’s, it has gone on to have a very positive impact on food security in many parts of the world. But this sustainable system of land development may lack sensitivity in its implementation. A macho ap-proach to bulldozing can often leave a bad vibe in a place, for example.

However, even earthworks can be done with sensitivity. Implementing a geomantically informed permaculture design for sustainable living may alleviate environmental problems on many levels. I’m finding that the more sensitive, spiritual approach to land planning and Earth care is gaining a welcome resonance amongst people who are weary of the neg-

ativity and unsustainability of today’s society. It can be a celebration of the sanctity of Mother Earth, indigenous Earth lore and the traditions of nature based spirituality.

The invisible dimensions of landscape are not merely energetic. They are also char-acterized by varying levels of conscious-ness, epitomised by universal traditions of the fairy/devic realms. I divide my time between Australia and Ireland, both places where knowledge of geomancy and the fairy world has survived relative-ly well, in understated undercurrents at the least.

The Australian Aborigines and native Irish are highly intuitive peoples. Like other animist societies, the Irish believed that fairy beings help to care for their crops and livestock and thus the ‘Good People’ must always be thanked, and their homes and pathways respected. The Aboriginal people were (and often still are) acutely aware of the nature spirits around them and they may be intimately connected to the totemic nature beings that act as familiars to them.

Nature spirits (also known as devas) continue to be a dynamic force in landscapes, I’ve discovered in my life of professional dowsing experience, travel, and teaching around the world. By dowsing and attunement I find exactly where the nature beings are stationed and thus help people to avoid disturbing them.

I also seek the co-operation of the fairies to ensure harmonious co-exist-ence. Swedish dowsers I’ve met have taken this approach further. They regularly consult with 10 metre tall European forest trolls and they ac-tively help the local devas to overcome debilitating effects of high-tech radiations, such as from mobile phone masts on hilltops. Not just affect-

Page 12: Dowsers Society of NSW Inc. Newsletter July 2011 Newsl… · 10 The Joy of Sensitive Living 13 Garlic, The Healing Plant 15 Beneath the Nasca Lines 20 The Triple Filter Test 23 Dowsing

ing the devas, sensitive people too suffer in the presence of such phone masts. Clusters of people reporting ‘Microwave Sickness’ symptoms are found in the vicinity of these insidious installations. Clearly, such ener-getic insults are not sustainable for continuing human existence.

Avoidance of such problems is always preferable and I actively defend sacred sites from such desecration wherever I can. In Australia in 2004, with a small group of determined locals, we fought a David and Goliath battle against Telstra erecting a 34m tall phone mast on top of the iconic Mount Franklin, the ‘Uluru’ of central Victoria, where I live (and fa-mously depicted on Mt Franklin water bottles).

After several days in a Melbourne VCAT tribunal, Telstra was defeated for the first time ever! It was thanks to the heritage overlay on the moun-tain that acknowledged its sacredness to Aboriginal people. That you can’t desecrate registered sacred sites this way is law in Australia and Tel-stra hadn’t done its homework.

Other such victories against phone towers elsewhere have followed from this precedent. (I wrote about this saga in my 2004 book ‘Divining Earth Spirit’.) However the proliferation of debilitating high-tech radiation in our beautiful landscapes in still increasing, thanks to industry thrusting ever higher levels of (typically unnecessary) technological complexity at us, such as digital tv and wireless broadband, also massive wind farms and the like. We lap them up at our peril!

In my seventh and latest book ‘Sensitive Permaculture, cultivating the way of the sacred Earth’ (November 2009), I explain how eliciting na-ture’s help in the garden can foster harmonious feng shui, as well as nour-ish our own inner, spiritual gardens. It focuses on an energetic and loving approach to sustainable land planning. For when we connect to the sa-cred dimensions of life our activities can become positively life-affirming, festive and joyful. This is our universal heritage.

Garlic, the Healing PlantExtract from Down to Earth, Part 4, Planting & Ranting

By Sib Cole, Dowsing Today, Journal of British Society of Dowsers, Vol 42, No 306, April 2010

At the time of writing we still have snow in the hedgerows and we are digging parsnips with a crowbar, but now is the time to think about

all the pests and diseases that we may be cursing later in the season.

This year we plan to make much more use of garlic, universally regarded as a healing plant, to help combat any pests or pestilence. The remaining garlic bulbs from last year that have gone past their best are perfectly good for use when brewing up potions for use on plants.

Garlic-water was used with a moderate amount of success on our potato and tomato plants last year to combat blight, and I suspect that the results may be even better if the treatment is started earlier and carried out rather frequently.

I had a few ideas about additions to enhance the garlic brew, and dowsed to check if these were useful or not. One thing I dowsed, was whether to include some grapefruit seed extract, as this is known to be a powerful natural fungicide, and I added a few drops to a litre of water that had been left in a clear bottle in the sun for 2 weeks, with 20 crushed cloves of garlic steeping in it.

I then dowsed to see if tea-tree oil would be a useful addition and then added a few drops of this. The whole lot was shaken vigorously and left until needed.

Page 14: Dowsers Society of NSW Inc. Newsletter July 2011 Newsl… · 10 The Joy of Sensitive Living 13 Garlic, The Healing Plant 15 Beneath the Nasca Lines 20 The Triple Filter Test 23 Dowsing

Page 14 Dowsers Society of NSW – July 2011

This is the point where my slapdash methods started to go awry. Run-ning short of time before going on holiday, instead of dowsing rigor-ously to see what dilutions to use, and dosage rates and times, I sprayed it on with gay abandon, and kept my fingers crossed. If I had been a little more disciplined about these vital details, I suspect the results would have been even better than they were. However, this season I plan to dowse down a check-list to try to be a little more scientific about the task.

Another thing to try in the fight against blight and other fungal diseases is the Homeopathic remedy Calc. Carb. Tablets of this could be dis-solved in water, or a few drops of the mother tincture could be diluted in water instead.

You would need to dowse for correct potency, amounts to use, dosage rates and best methods of application. Don’t forget that the dowsed an-swers for your particular situation may not be the same for everybody else trying the method. Given that the fungus which causes potato blight is related to seaweed, it may be that a homeopathic preparation of sea-weed could be worth trying, too.

I am told that garlic is a useful tool in the fight against other garden pests. I did try dowsing to see if garlic would mask the smell of carrots, to fool carrot fly, so I scattered crushed cloves of garlic along the rows. However, the pieces of garlic very quickly disappeared, probably eaten by mice, so I must work out a better way to do this – possibly using the afore-men-tioned garlic-water in a strong solution, watered along the rows at regular intervals, particularly after rain.

Aphids don’t seem too fond of garlic either, and I believe some gardeners have used it successfully against snails. In the past wild garlic leaves [ram-sons] were boiled in water and the liquid was used for pest control on plants.

Beneath the Nasca LinesBy David Johnson

Reprinted from Dowsing Today, Journal of British Society of Dowsers, Vol 42, No 306, April 2010

In August of 1995, when I first arrived in Nasca, Peru, I never imagined it would be a life changing experience that would take me on an odys-

sey for the next eleven years, and continue to lure me back to Peru for the rest of my life. What is most intriguing is how fast things transpired from the time I entered Nasca as a tourist, to the first dis-coveries and then the transition into a ma-jor project involving the academic commu-nity. What began as a project to help Nasca find additional water sources quickly evolved into a new interpretation of the ge-ology and hydrology of the Andean water-shed, and the discovery of groundwater sources beneath the Atacama Desert, which were unknown to its modern inhabitants.

These discoveries were quickly followed by the revelation that the Nasca Lines were associated with them, and, as incredible as it sounds, the an-cient inhabitants had documented these features. Once the correlation was made, the Nasca Lines were a hieroglyphics waiting to be read. Once the interpretation of various geometric shapes became clear, I was even more surprised to find that the Nasca Lines were only a part of a much greater text, the coastal geoglyphs of Peru and Chile.

During the course of my investigation, coastal geoglyphs at various sites along 1,200 mi / 1,931 km of Peru and Chile’s coastal desert were sur-veyed, and the results were the same. The geoglyphs mapped the ground-water resources of the desert. This interpretation of the coastal geoglyphs

Page 16: Dowsers Society of NSW Inc. Newsletter July 2011 Newsl… · 10 The Joy of Sensitive Living 13 Garlic, The Healing Plant 15 Beneath the Nasca Lines 20 The Triple Filter Test 23 Dowsing

is the only one that is currently being implemented today, as it was in the past, to assist residents of the driest desert of the world, find the most important component needed to support life in this parched environ-ment, water. Interestingly, none of these discoveries would have been made if I hadn’t used dowsing. Using L shaped rods I was able to locate aquifers that had gone undetected by modern scientific investigations.

Nasca is located in the Rio Grande de Nasca drainage along the southern coast of Peru. In 1996 I began my re-search by surveying the com-munities known water sourc-es. I was surprised to learn that ancient aqueducts (infiltration galleries) known locally as

puquios, provided the community with one of the most reliable water sources. Therefore I began my study of the Nasca Valley by examining the ancient puquios. Historically the puquios have provided a reliable source of fresh water, even in the driest years when many wells failed. Previous studies, such as Schreiber and Lancho (1995), concluded the puquios received water from the rivers.

Observing the location of the puquios along the upper Nasca Valley I wondered why most of them paralleled the east-west flow of the river rather than cross it. Considering the scarcity of water in this region one might theorize they were constructed to capture the highest rates of flow. Thus, if this theory were correct, the aqueducts should be perpendicular to the river’s subterranean flow and not parallel like most of them. I be-gan to wonder if an alternative water source was an option.

It was this thought that lead me to the aquifers intersecting the valleys from the sides, which I located by dowsing, and eventually several were identified.

Page 17: Dowsers Society of NSW Inc. Newsletter July 2011 Newsl… · 10 The Joy of Sensitive Living 13 Garlic, The Healing Plant 15 Beneath the Nasca Lines 20 The Triple Filter Test 23 Dowsing

Dowsers Society of NSW – July 2011 Page 17

Where aquifers flowed and surface soils were not disturbed by alluvial flooding, agriculture or construction, there were geoglyphs. Geoglyphs consist of giant stone drawings that literally stretch for miles on the sur-face of the ground from the Andean foothills, across the pampa (desert) to the coast. This collection of geometric shapes and figures are known as the “Nasca Lines”.

Using dowsing I identified the source and width of the aquifers and I realized various geoglyphs corresponded to my calculations. I compared specific data from aquifers, faults, archaeological sites and various geo-glyphs and realized they consistently correlated with one another. Even-tually I was able to associate various geoglyph shapes with aquifers and geological features. For example, a geoglyph system consisting of a vari-ety of geoglyphs was associated with each fault and aquifer. Trapezoids were located directly above an aquifer marking its width.

Additional studies of the Rio Grande de Nasca drainage came to the same conclusion: the Nasca Lines consistently map the source and course of aquifers. Five components were consistently present at each location, as if part of an equation: faults, aquifers, fresh water sources, geoglyphs and archaeological sites. Where one or more of these fea-tures are found there is a high probability the others are present. I real-ized the Nasca Lines are a text imprinted into the landscape providing the inhabitants of the region, both past and present, with the solution to their water problems. Unfortunately, daily, unprotected geoglyphs are being damaged by agriculture and construction. If this continues one of the greatest manuscripts of the ancient world will be erased for-ever.

For several decades people have theorized that some of the Lines of Nasca are associated with water resources. For example, Aveni and oth-ers have suggested various geoglyphs ‘parallel the direction of surface water flow’(Aveni 1990). These observations only considered surface water erosion patterns and not subterranean flows. My observations were the first to consider aquifers as an alternative to surface water.

Page 18 Dowsers Society of NSW – July 2011

After studying the Rio Grande de Nasca drainage for two years I sought assistance from the scientific community to help prove my theory. In 1998, supported by grants from the National Geographic Research and Exploration Society, H. John Heinz III Trust, Healy Grant and Rotary International, an interdisciplinary study was conducted in the Rio Grande de Nasca drainage. Team members included myself, as Principal Investigator; Dr Donald Prouix, Professor, Department of Anthropology, University of Massachusetts, specializing in Andean ar-chaeology and Nasca ceramics, and Dr Steve Mabee, Assistant Profes-sor, Department of Geosciences, University of Massachusetts, special-izing in hydrology and geology. The Department of Geosciences provided a variety of scientific equipment.

The scientific study lasted five years and examined sites throughout the Rio Grande de Nasca drainage. The data indicated puquios were strategi-cally located to intercept aquifers intersecting the river valleys. This is further substantiated by the location of archaeological sites, habitation and /or cemetery, at each of these locations. Faults were mapped, water sources were analyzed and the data compared to determine if there was more than one water source. Archaeological sites and geoglyphs were mapped and ‘ground surveyed’ to determine if there was a correlation between them. The results supported my original observations.

As I expanded my investigation along the coasts of Peru and Chile, I re-alised the Nasca Lines were far from unique. Along Peru’s central coast in the Supe Valley, I found numerous geoglyphs near Caral and others fur-ther north in the Casma Valley. I have documented geoglyphs in the Rimac and Ica Valleys in Peru as well as the Lluta, Azapa and Camarones Valleys of northern Chile. These sites cover a distance of approximately 1,200 mi/1,931 km along the Pacific Coast. During these investigations I realized the concept of using geoglyphs and biomorphs may not have originated in Rio Grande de Nasca drainage since very similar patterns are also associated with other sites such as Caral, which is much older.

It appears geoglyphs were constructed in a number of coastal regions by different cultures either during the same or different historical periods. The influence of the Nasca Culture extended from the Canete Valley to the Chala Valleys in southern Peru, a distance of 230 miles / 370 km, with its heartland in the Ica and Rio Grande de Nasca drainages (Silver-man and Prouix, 2002). This is a relatively short distance within the coastal desert. An-other intriguing aspect is, throughout these coastal regions the function of the various geo-glyph shapes remained the same. Until now only those found in the Rio Grande de Nasca drainage have been investigated extensively. Therefore my geoglyph in-terpretation is based on several sites located along the coasts of Peru and Chile. This data poses an intriguing question: did the concept of con-structing geoglyphs originate in the Rio Grande de Nasca and Ica drain-ages or was it imported into this region? At this point in time I am not sure what the answer is.

One of the greatest challenges was to present our data in a way that would appeal to both the general public as well as the academic commu-nity. Therefore I include my initial discoveries in the first chapter of my e-book and my interpretation of the geoglyphs in the second chapter. This provides anyone interested in the mysterious Nasca Lines with the basic discoveries that lead to their interpretation. Then one can continue on as far as they wish, by regions, along the coast of Peru and northern Chile. The text is also interactive with Google Earth. While reading the text you can observe the various features discussed simultaneously in Google Earth imagery. This way anyone, regardless of their degree of curiosity about this subject, will find something of interest.

The Triple Filter Test

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem. One day

an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, “Do you know what I just heard about your friend?”

“Hold on a minute,” Socrates replied. “Be-fore you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you’re going to say. That’s why I call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?”

“Well, no,” the man said, “actually I just heard about it and…”

“All right,” said Socrates. “So you don’t really know if it’s true or not. Now, let’s try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?”

“Umm, no, on the contrary…”

“So,” Socrates continued, “you want to tell me something bad about my friend, but you’re not certain it’s true. You may still pass the test though, be-cause there’s one filter left—the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?”

“No, not really.”

“Well,” concluded Socrates, “if what you want to tell me is neither true, nor good, nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?”

Speaker for August 21st, 2011 - Maxine Haigh-White -

Kitchen Medicine

Herbal medicine is the oldest and still the most widely used sys-

tem of medicine in the world today.

Modern day Western herbal medi-cine draws on centuries of knowledge from the time of Hippocrates to today. There has been an increasing interest by the scientific profession with regard to the efficacy of herbs such as St John’s Wort, Echi-nacea, Hawthorn extract and of course the new antioxidants.

There was a time when simple medicinal habits were passed down from mother to daughter, these times are long gone. Being a medi-cal herbalist and passionate about simple remedies that are reliable, safe and inexpensive, Maxine has developed easy to understand grassroots kitchen medicine courses. She will share some of her secrets with us. An event not to be missed.

Maxine Haigh-White practises as a Medical Herbalist, a full mem-ber of the National Herbalists Association of Australia and The Australian Traditional Medicine Society, She also has a clinic in Balgowlah and teaches at Mosman community college.
