Pioneer Courthouse Square, Inc. is a non-prot organization whose mission is to manage and program Downtown’s central public space, Pioneer Courthouse Square. Pioneer Courthouse Square, Inc. would like to express its sincere gratitude to those listed above for their generosity in helping us achieve an active and healthy downtown core.
STIMSON LUMBER’S GIFT: A TREE
For the past eight years, Stimson Lumber has committed to provide the City of Portland with the famous Tree that lives at Pioneer Courthouse Square throughout the months of November and December.
The 2010 Tree for Portland, a 75-foot tall Douglas-fir, is a gift from Stimson Lumber Company for all to enjoy this season. The Tree was grown on Stimson forestlands near Gaston, Oregon, which are managed by professional foresters for the sustainable growth and production of timber. Stimson’s forestlands have been independently certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Program. This program is designed to provide assurances that all resources associated with forests, such as air, water, wildlife, trees and fish, that we use and enjoy today will also be available for future generations to equally use and enjoy.
The search for the Douglas-fir, the state tree of Oregon, began more than six months ago. As the holiday season approached, a team including Stimson foresters and contractors such as timber fallers, equipment operators and truck haulers carefully fell, loaded and hauled the Tree out of the forest to Pioneer Courthouse Square. Stimson Lumber Company is proud to have the opportunity to present this Tree to the City of Portland. Stimson Lumber Company is a privately owned company that began more than 150 years ago. Stimson’s corpo-rate office is located in Portland and has operations in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

Through an investment of more than $200 million, the Portland Mall Revitalization Project has introduced light-rail service to the Portland Mall. At the completion of this project, the Portland Mall has been returned to its original architectural excellence and grace. Portland Mall Management, Inc’s mission is to bring together community stakeholders to collaborate in maintaining the Portland Mall, keeping it the business-friendly and pedestrian-oriented environment it was built as, and avoiding its past history of neglect and deterioration.
