Up late? Hungry? Check out some of Bellingham’s late night

dining options in their own words

NYP Bar and Grill Casa Que Pasa The Horseshoe Cafe AB Crepes

Late night munchies

Staff Favorites: “Our number one staff favorite is probably the chicken and waffles, they typically order that for their shift meals. They also really like our burgers. We get our meat locally from Carne, the butcher shop right up the street. It’s just really tasty, it’s a re-ally good brioche bun, it’s with Tillamook cheddar cheese and it’s a very classic, tasty burger. I would say the staff eat that more than anything on the menu. Also, I’d say the biscuits and gravy, and our classic breakfast: The Old Fashioned. It’s just hash browns, eggs and your choice of meat, and that would be our number one seller.”

Late Night Favorite: “Late at night, people order cheesy fries like they are going out of style. Cheesy fries with bacon or just cheesy fries, we sell a ton of those late at night. ...Also, we do our own chicken strips in house, and those are pretty popular late at night, because it’s a good, deep fried meal when you are out late at night.”

Fast Fact: The Horseshoe Cafe turned 130 years old this year.

Staff Favorites: “The deep fried fame is one of our staff favorites as well as the potato burrito, which is a long running favorite. The nacho taco is also one of the favorites, as well as the fish tacos are really good here. I know the Poseidon is one of the customer favorites, which is one of our burritos, and it’s got breaded fish inside of it so that is why it’s called the Poseidon, the God of the sea.”

Late Night Favorite: “Our quesadil-las are good sellers at night, I think it’s mainly because they’re quick and they are really big. Our jalapeño pop-pers are made fresh in house, and are a really hot item. They usually sell out before we have a chance to make more. They are really good, they’re made fresh, fresh peppers, fresh ingredients, from scratch, in house.”

Fast Fact: Casa Que Pasa has the longest happy hour in town, noon to 6 p.m., and a second happy hour from 9 to 11 p.m.

Staff Favorites: “The staff favorites are what’s the chef’s special, which is you just tell the cook to make you whatever you want for this much money and then we will make it, or anything on the secret menu. So just inquiring about what is on there, especially for late night.”

Late Night Favorite: “The chicken bacon ranch is phenomenal, so good. I know a lot of people here like that. The apple pie is really, really good anytime: morning, day, night.”

Fast Fact: AB Crepes offers more food than what is listed on their menu. “We will admit that we have a secret menu, but we can’t tell you what is on the secret menu. If you come in and inquire, then we will inform you. A couple of our menu items used to be secret menu items. Secret menu is equivalent to tricks of the trade, just because we cook with the food all day so we just know good ways to make it, that aren’t on the menu.”

Staff Favorites: “Our happy hour menu is definitely awesome. It goes from 2 to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to (midnight). I would say our pulled pork nachos is one of the best things on the happy hour menu. That comes in at $7, it’s still a really huge por-tion. We make the pulled pork every day, fresh in house, we source it locally from Washington.”

Late Night Favorite: “The 10-inch pep-percorn bacon ranch pizza is definitely one of our customer favorites in general and certainly for happy hour. Our 10-inch piz-zas are on that menu and it’s a great deal. We make our pizza dough every day, fresh. We have our own proprietary blend that we do in house. Also, we make our ranch that goes into the base of the pizza, we make the sauce from scratch, we make all the ingredients scratch, and for proteins and things like that we source from Washing-ton.”

Fast Fact: The Bellingham location is one of seven restaurants under the NYP umbrella, with locations along the I-5 cor-ridor. The chain was created by Bellingham native Mike Novak.

“I like to go to dinner downtown and I have a couple friends that I go to the bars with. I like going to McKay’s be-cause it’s a nice little meeting place be-fore you go do stuff, and it’s close to my apartment too, so I don’t have to drive anywhere or get a taxi.”

“I like to start at the Schwein and then go to BBG’s and finish off at the Un-derground. I start at the Schewinhaus because you can get a liter [of beer] for about $5-7 to get you going, meet up with your buddies and then go from there!”

“I really like to go to breweries with friends. My favorite is Wander. I also work there, so I’m biased, but we make really good beer. What’s really awe-some about Wander is we are always changing the kinds of beer we make and we have 12 things on tap and each one is completely different from the next.”

“I go social dancing. I do a lot of salsa and bachata fusion dancing, there is quite a few venues around the city. We have Cafe Rumba for the Latin stuff and then we have a few other fusion joints. They’re usually on the week-days but there are some that go on the weekend too. It’s a different way to de-stress.”
