Downloading the MMDS Software Installation Files Before installing the MMDS 2007.02 software, the installation files must be downloaded to your PC. Downloading the files will require access to the internet. Windows Explorer is recommended. To access the files, click on the following link or direct your browser to this location:

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/about/major/dvs/medsof.htm This will show the NCHS Medical Software page. Click on the link 2007.02 under 2007 System. This will display the folder with the file MMDS0702.exe Double-click on the file MMDS0702.exe to begin the download. The following program will start. It may take a few seconds to appear.

To begin the download, click on the “Extract button” and the files will be copied to your hard drive in the location highlighted: C:\MMDS2007\Install. If you want to change this, you may do so before clicking the Extract Button. You will be prompted to Create the C:\MMDS2007\Install directory. Click “Yes”.

The program will run for a few seconds (maybe longer depending on internet speed) and then the box will vanish when the download is complete.

Installing the MMDS Software Suite

To install this version of the MMDS software, you will need:

• The MMDS Install files downloaded to your PC.

• To exit ALL other applications, INCLUDING any programs of the MMDS software suite.

• To exit or disable any anti-virus software on your system or network (e.g., Norton Anti-virus).

Steps for installing:

1. Exit all applications and exit (or disable) any anti-virus software (such as Norton Anti-Virus) currently running on your system.

2. Click on your Windows Start Bar (generally found on the bottom left of your screen) and choose Run.

In the dialogue box type “C:\MMDS2007\Install\Setup.exe and press “OK”. If a different location was chosen in the download stage, use that location.

The setup routine will begin installing the software.

4. Setup will now ask you for the destination directory. “C:\MMDS2007” is the default directory. Generally, you should choose this default directory, but if you need to change the directory click the Browse button and choose an alternative directory. Then click Next to continue.

5. You must now choose the type of setup you need. Most users will choose a Typical setup, or you can customize your setup by choosing Compact or Custom. Press Next to continue.

6. The next screen will allow you to specify a program folder for the MMDS software. Most users will keep the default (“WinMMDS”), but if you want a different program folder change the name here. Press Next to continue.

7. A confirmation screen will display your installation choices. Click Back to change any of your installation choices, or click Next to continue.

8. Setup will begin copying the necessary files to your computer. During the copying, progress

gauges will show the progress of the installation.
