Downloading eBooks to your iPad

Using OverDrive with the Alachua County Library District

You may have the free OverDrive Media Console app already installed. If not, search the app store.

Open OverDrive Media Console.Touch the Menu icon at the top left.

Touch Settings on the left-hand side of the screen.

To check out ebooks from the library, you will need to Authorize your device.

If you don’t already have an Adobe ID, touch Get a free Adobe ID.

The browser opens to the page for Adobe account creation. Fill out the required fields and tap Create.

Once you have finished signing up for an Adobe ID, return to the OverDrive app to Authorize.

Touch Add a Library near the top of the left sidebar.

Search for your library by entering Alachua County Library District or your zip code.

Select the library from the list.

Tap the star beside the library to make it a favorite (so you don’t have to do this step again).

Tap the library’s name beside the star to go into our OverDrive collection.

Sign in first to adjust your lending periods. Tap Account.

Sign in with your library card number and PIN/password.

Tap Settings.

Tap on the lending periods you want, then tap Done.

Return to the home page to browse or search for titles.

The top right of each cover indicates the format. A dark icon indicates that the title is checked in.

From a category page or a search, you can filter your results. You can also limit results to available items.

When you find the book you want, tap the cover and then tap Borrow.

Tap Download (Select one format). Tap Adobe EPUB eBook and then Confirm & Download.

You may see the message “Loading Title” before your book finishes downloading and appears in the list.

If you are not taken to the app’s Bookshelf, tap the menu icon at top left and then tap Bookshelf.

Tap the book’s cover to start reading.

To return a title, tap and hold the cover, then tap Return and confirm.
