Woman’sdomesticabusewarningA FiFe woman who was strangled by herex-partner in full view of her young childrenhas urged others not to suffer in silence.

in an exclusive interview with TheCourier, the mother-of-three gave a dramaticaccount of how she went from being a “welleducated and quite confident” woman tosomeone who had a serious drink problem,zero confidence and who stopped seeing herfriends.

She told how the relationship with herboyfriend started off romantic but quicklybecame “suffocating” as he tried to controlher life.

The woman spoke of the night whenher drunken partner turned aggressiveand finally went for her — placing his

hands around her throat and throttlingher.

She said that he only stopped when heryoung children climbed out of their bedsand came into the room to see what thecommotion was about.

“Bit by bit my confidence dropped and iended up with low self-esteem,” she said.

“i began to drink more as a coping strategyand was on antidepressants.

“He said he’d never hit a woman before,and he didn’t — he tried to strangle me.”

She said the impactonherandherchildrenhad been considerable.
