What is it? Infectious, viral disease that can be fatal. It is found in warm climates. It is caused by an RNA virus from a

mosquito!

How do you know you have it?

The skin starts to turn a yellowish color. The whites of eyes can turn yellower. That’s why they call it Yellow Fever!

What is its history? In1793-1822 it was the most dreaded diseases in the

United States. It has been traced back before the 18th century! It was first discovered by Benjamin Rush. It originated in the tropics.

How is it spread?

Spreads very quickly and easily. Smelling victim's odor and breath will continue

spreading. Breathing the same air with those affected caused

spreading.

Is there any treatment?

There is no cure. There is a vaccine available. The person affected WILL need to be in the hospital.

What’s it’s current research?

Pasteur Institute in Dakar prepare vaccines. These vaccines prevent yellow fever, not cure . Epidemiological research in conducted in two ways:

Retrospective epidemiology: investigates disease after someone is infected

Prospective epidemiology: determines if someone will be affected in future
