Week beginning Monday 4th May 2020
We are learning to:
• add and subtract time
• convert duration in hours and minutes
Follow the learning journey on this PowerPoint; it has a break down for each day from Monday to Friday. There will be a task each day
which could be introduced in a video from our YouTube channel, a link to a different website, a worksheet or an open-ended challenge.
If you want to, you could upload your work to Purple Mash so that your teachers can see how hard you’ve been working.
There are also 2Dos to complete on Purple Mash this week which match these objectives. These will go live on Monday and close on
Friday.
Day 1
Monday 4th May 2020We are learning to add time

at the end. If you are unable to access the video, see the next slide for a visual
representation of today’s learning and slide 5 for a copy of today’s task.
Time game:
For this you will need 2 players, a counter and a
game board.
Step 1:
Player 1 flicks a counter until it lands on a
circle on the game board
Step 2:
Player 1 flicks the counter again until it hits
another circle
Step 3:
Player 1 adds the 2 times together
Step 4:
Player 2 checks player 1’s answer and if
player 1 is correct they get a point
Step 5:
SWAP and it is now player 2’s turn
Today’s Task:- Add the times below
- Play the time game
a) 7hr 30 mins + 3hr 14 mins =
b) 20 mins + 55 mins =
c) 55 mins + 45 mins =
d) 4hr 46 mins + 2hr 14 mins =
e) 1hr 48 mins + 3hr 35 mins =
f) Jennifer spends 50 minutes practising the guitar.
She then spends 2hr 15 mins doing her homework.
How long does she spend on the two tasks in total?
Day 2
Tuesday 5th May 2020We are learning to subtract time

Subtract game:
For this you will need 2-4 players, a container and some
paper
Step 1:
Each player writes 5 subtraction questions on
time. Write one question on each paper strip.
E.g. 3hr 25 mins – 1hr 15 mins
Step 2:
Put all the questions into a container (e.g. bag)
Step 3:
Player 1 picks a question from the bag and
works out the answer
Step 4:
The other players check the answer. Points
awarded if the answer is correct.
Step 5:
SWAP and it is now player 2’s turn

a) 8hr 20 mins – 7hr 15 mins =
b) 3hr 55 mins – 2hr 30 mins =
c) 5hr 15 mins – 2hr 25 mins =
d) 6hr 10 mins – 1hr 55 mins =
e) 9hr 40 mins – 4hr 45 mins =
f) Mrs B takes 3hr 5 mins to cook dinner. Mr E takes
2hr 40 mins to cook dinner. How much longer
does Mrs B take to cook dinner than Mr E?
