The 1st paragraph should catch the attention with unusual , unexpected action or conflict.
Ex.

Each speaker gets his/her own paragraph

Tip : Know way more about the character than you need, know more than you display in the written piece.

Include enough detail to let the reader visualize but only details that add to the story.
Use 2 or more senses in your description of setting.

First person(narrator, limits reader to one character's thoughts)
Second person(puts the reader within all the actual scenes)
Third person (allows you to explore all of the characters' thoughts)
Third person limited(allows you to explore one character's thoughts)
