Contemplative Group
We are meeting every Wednesday at 10 a.m. on
Zoom (ID 813 1796 4254), No password is re-
quired. We begin with 20 minutes of silent medita-
tion followed by a teaching and discussion. This
week (May 20) we begin a new series on the Enne-
agram.
The Enneagram is a system of personality typing
that describes patterns in how people conceptualize
the world and manage their emotions. It describes
nine different types and maps each on a nine-pointed
diagram which helps to illustrate how the types re-
late to one another.
According to the Enneagram, every personality
has a certain world view and looks at the world
through their own lens or filter. This makes it possi-
ble to explain why people behave in certain ways.
We will be using a series by Fr. Richard Rohr and
Russ Hudson. This will be an introductory to the
Enneagram, which hopefully will enable participants
to further their work in their spiritual journey.
If interested, please send Mel Caron your email so
that materials can be sent prior to the class -
NEW EVENING STUDY!
Join Mel and Fr. Don Caron for a 7-week study called “Living the Questions.” This program of-fers a flexible format with DVD presentations and group discussions. The DVD features today’s lead-
ing religious voices in theology and scripture.
We begin meeting on Wednesday, May 27, 7-8:30 p.m. on Zoom. The ID for the meeting is 870 6705 8188. No password is required. Each session is free-standing so you can join for one or all of the sessions. This is a recurring meeting, so put this ID in a safe location (like under your phone
contacts!)
We are offering this as a combined class between St. David’s in Cranbury and Good Shepherd in Pitman. Feel free to invite your friends from other churches to join us too! You can contact Mel at [email protected] or 478-234-3698.
Worshipping With Us
Welcome! Episcopal worship is participatory. We stand, we kneel, we speak, sometimes we sing! Please join in at your level of comfort. If you’d like to learn more about what we as Episcopalians believe or if you have any questions, please fill out one of the yellow cards in the pew and give it to Mother Susan or one of our ushers. We hope you feel welcome here and that you will come back often to feed your faith.
A Word About Receiving Communion in the Episcopal Church
All are invited to the Altar to receive. If you would like a blessing, just cross your arms over your chest. If you decide to receive only the bread, extend your hand for the wafer and cross your arms over your chest to decline the wine. For the wine or grape juice you may guide the chalice to your lips by placing your hand gently on the chalice’s base and guiding it. Or you can dip your host (wafer) into the wine. Or you can give the host to the Lay Eucharistic Minister, who will dip the host into the wine and place it in your mouth.
FOOD PANTRY
Next week, May 30th & 31st we are collecting Cereal for
the Pitman Food Pantry. All donations are greatly appreci-
ated and accepted. Since we are not at the church on the
weekends you could bring your donations directly to the
pantry or Sue Burkhard's house. Pantry hours - Tuesdays
6 to 7, Wednesdays 4 to 5, Thursdays 12 to 1.
Do you need help?
Cindy Taglienti is coordinating an effort for any-one who needs groceries, medicine or even food for pets. You can write on her Facebook post on the Church's Facebook page or call Beth Portocal-is at 856-357-3938.
During this time of uncertainty, please know that Church of the Good Shepherd will always be here for you. Please email us or phone in your prayers so Mother Susan and Deacon Carl can pray for you specifically if you desire. Both of them are calling parishioners to check up on you and see how you are doing. We want to thank you all for continuing to support Good Shepherd by mailing in your pledges.
Blessings, Mother Susan and Deacon Carl
Pitman Food Pantry
In the midst of this Coronavirus crisis, the Pitman Food Pantry is in critical need of food dona-tions. With so many churches closed, the usual sup-ply path of donations is drying up while the de-mand is increasing. If you can donate, please bring any items to the pantry during normal open-ing hour, which are Tuesdays from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, Wednesdays from 3:30 – 5:00 PM, and Thursdays from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. The Pantry is located at the First Baptist Church, locat-ed at 30 North Broadway in Pitman. Bags may be left outside the door, just knock so the volunteers inside are aware that donations have been left. Jenn Harrington also offered to deliver to the pantry, so you can drop off at her house in Wash-ington Township. Her address is in the directory but if you need it or directions, you may call her at 856-383-0823.
THURSDAY STUDY GROUP
This group meets every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. on Zoom (ID 860 0220 4298). No password is required. We are beginning a new study on May 21 called Following the Mystics Beyond the Narrow Gate. This is a DVD series presented by Fr; Richard Rohr and Dr. James Finley. In this series we will learn about the history of the mys-tics through the ages, including every major religion. We will also be introduced to the mothers and fathers who have gone before us, having attained a oneness with God. If interested, please send Mel Caron your email so that materials can be sent prior to the class – [email protected].
