Our parking lot can be a busy place, espe-
cially at the beginning and end of the day.
In an effort to ensure student safety,
please refrain from driving through the
bus lane between 8:45-9:00am and 3:00-
3:35pm as the buses need priority to en-
ter, and exit during these times. The south side of the parking lot, in front of
the office is also closed to vehicle traffic
when the buses are here as students need
a clear passage to enter and exit the
school. Even though it may be physically
possible to get your car through, we ask
that you wait the extra couple minutes
until all the buses have exited.
If you are picking students up, we ask that
you meet your child at the school at dis-
missal and walk with them to parked
cars. There is lots of traffic on Sev-
enth Street and we want to avoid
situations that require our students
crossing the street without supervi-
sion.
As a further pre-caution, we will have
all school teams and clubs meet in
the atrium when arranging rides for
school events. We ask that all volun-
teer drivers park in the north end of
the parking lot (lake side) and walk
students out to the cars. We recog-nize this may sometimes take a cou-
ple minutes longer, but appreciate
your support to ensure our school
family stays safe.
December arrives, and it is exciting to
consider the progress our students have
made these first three months of school! I
want to thank all of our parents and
friends who have volunteered at the
school, coaching students, driving for
games, volunteering in classrooms, help-
ing with hot lunches, participating in our
parent school advisory council and sup-
porting our book fair. Your contributions
to Woodland are so enriching for our stu-
dents!
Our staff and students are now busy re-
hearsing for our annual Woodland Holi-
day Concert which is scheduled for
Tuesday, December 16th at 7pm at Cen-
tral Community Church, 240 Scott Street,
St. Catharines. Please join us for the
evening to celebrate together.
‘Tis the season for giving and we will
continue with our annual Woodland sup-
port to help those in need in our commu-
nity this month. Some of these initiatives
include a food and toy drive as well as
the Tree of Warmth, with all collections
donated to Community Care.
We wish all of our Woodland
families a very safe and happy
holiday. The last day of classes
is Friday, December 19th. We
will see you back at school on
Monday, January 5, 2015.
Sincerely, Mr. James Willms

There may be times during the school year where inclement weather or other situations could cause transpor-tation cancellations or school closures. At times when student transportation has been cancelled and schools remain open, the decision of whether or not to have children in school on that day rests with the parent or guardian. Should you decide not to send your child to school in the event that transportation is cancelled but schools remain open, or if your child is ill or late, please ensure that you call your child’s school to inform them of your child’s absence. A key resource in any emergency is the DSBN Emergency Information form that you filled out at the begin-ning of the school year. Please let the school know of any changes in contact information or procedures you wish to be followed throughout the school year. For secondary schools it may become necessary to cancel late buses. Notice will be provided via school an-nouncements and on the websites and subscription features by 11:30 a.m. Information about transportation cancellations and school closures will be available as soon as a decision is made.

We appreciate your continued support of the program and the effort you go to, to help the school. As it is such an easy
program to support, I find even grandparents, neighbors and organizations, church groups are happy to save the la-
bels to help the children. It never hurts to ask. For further information about products, please follow the “soup can” link
on our school website. Thank you all, SAC and Sue Ricciardi
Our school Calendar is now available “live” from the Woodland School Website.
Previously, we created the calendar and uploaded a copy each month. With our
new calendar link, it will be easier to update the calendar, adding and editing events
as necessary. It will also allow you to navigate to future months and look ahead to
upcoming events that have been entered. Please take the opportunity to check it
