Cut the power and water supply off.

Empty the water heater tank once you’ve done the previous precautionary measures.





Identify the source of the water heater leak. See the following troubleshooting steps.





Lower the temperature of your hot water heater.





If the leak is coming from the unit’s heating element, that part may require replacement.





If you find the leak coming from the overflow pipe, place a bucket or container underneath and open the T&P valve. Flush it and make sure that is free from sediments before closing the valve back.





If the leaks are coming from the connecting pipes, try to tighten the flex lines and the drain valves a little bit more.





When there’s a sign of corrosion, it’s possible that there may be tiny holes in it where the water seeps out.
