Phthalates

Phthalates (pronounced THA-lates) are a group of chemicals most often

used to make products more flexible, and are often calledplasticizers. They are used in a variety of products, includingpolyvinyl chloride (PVC) products. PVC is a rigid plastic, and phthalatesare often added to PVC products to make them soft and flexible.

In laboratory animals, some phthalates have been associated with liverabnormalities including tumours, as well as fertility problems. Some

phthalates may act as endocrine disruptors. There are many differenttypes of phthalates, and they have different uses and may affect humanhealth in different ways.

Phthalates may be found in some types of flooring, medical devices such asintravenous (IV) bags and tubing, and childrens toys. Phthalates areoften used for other reasons as well, for example, as plasticizers in nail

polish, or to make scent last longer in perfumes or other fragrances.

For example, if you have a sickkidney or sick kidney cells, it is impossible for the rest of your body to be well.The kidney needs to be nourished with the right nutrients, plenty of healthywater, and most importantly full nerve supply. Even if the rest of the body isseemingly healthy, it never really will be if the filtering system is not trulyfunctional. If the parts are sick, the whole will be sick. Likewise, if you treat a

person with a heart problem with heart medications, that persons entire bodywill suffer ill effects and never truly be well. In fact, the heart problem alongwith the medications will make that persons entire body dis-eased.

The most critical component in staying well or keeping the parts healthy is

making sure that the communication system that runs the body is free and clearof nerve interference (subluxation). Subluxation robs the body of vital messagesthat are designed to tell each and every tissue cell exactly how to run. Each tissuecell must receive healthy messages first, then the rest of the body can be well.

Chiropractic is based on a SIMPLE truth; that the body needs no help, just nointerference. To the right you will see under normal a picture of a healthy

brain-body connection, where the brain is communicating with the cells of thebody properly. Chiropractic and Immune Function

Measuring 107 individuals who had received long-term

chiropractic care, Pero's team turned up some surprisingfindings. All chiropractic patients were "generally normal" - thatis, they had no obvious genetic reasons for increasedresistance or susceptibility to disease. Any difference,therefore, had to be accounted for by environmental ortherapeutic factors. The chiropractic patients also had 200percent greater immune-competence than people who had

not received chiropractic, and 400 percent greater immune-
