Why Do You Need A Mentor?
30+ years of research has shown that…• Having a mentor is the single, most important reason people
succeed in their careers – more than hard work, talent and intelligence
• Structured mentorship and exposure to strong female role models is particularly key for advancement of women in middle management
• Mentors give advice on how to operate effectively in the working world based on real experience
• Mentors can give you a big picture view of what you are experiencing
• Mentors can help you discover, develop and leverage your strengths and enhance your personal style
8
Why You Should Become A Mentor
• It is never too early to mentor!
• It is very important to mentor other women—share your experience and develop your coaching, listening, and facilitating skills
• You don’t have to know all the answers for all your mentees’ problems – you have to help her find the solutions herself
“Little in life satisfies as much as watching someone ‘get it’, seeing someone learn and gain in confidence and then grow beyond you” – Sheila Wellington, President of Catalyst
