THE CURRICULUM
HISD Curriculum is based on the State Standards (TEKS)

STAAR
To be successful, students need to be able to master the Reporting Categories.
These categories will include two types of standards.
Readiness
(not repeated in future years—65%)
Supporting
(students will see next year-35%)
Reporting Categories
Math Reporting Categories
Reporting Category 1: Numbers, Operations, and Quantitative Reasoning
Reporting Category 2: Patterns, Relationships, and Algebraic Reasoning
Reporting Category 3: Geometry and Spatial Reasoning
Reporting Category 4: Measurement
Reporting Category 5: Probability and Statistics (Data Analysis)
Fifth grade has 4 reporting categories because category 3 and 4 are combined.
3rd Grade Reporting Category 1:
Numbers, Operations, and Quantitative Reasoning
4th Grade Reporting Category 1:
Numbers, Operations, and Quantitative Reasoning
5th Grade Reporting Category 1:

All processing standards are embedded in the reporting
categories. Most of the questions assess more than one
standard.
Your child will apply mathematical process standards to
develop and use strategies and methods to solve problems
with efficiency and accuracy.
The process standards require your child to…
-analyze attributes
-problem solve
-develop generalizations
-think critically
-select appropriate tools to solve problems
