On behalf of the Bermuda Rugby Football Union, it is my great privilege and honour to welcomeGuadeloupe to Bermuda for the 2019 RAN Championship Final, or ‘Caribbean Cup Final’, as it has beenunofficially dubbed here in Bermuda. We are incredibly grateful to Guadeloupe for the dedication and commitment they have shown us in simply being here, especially given the uncertainty of HurricaneHumberto, which saw their 30-strong squad stranded in Miami whilst the storm raged past us.
This game represents a milestone of real significance to both teams. Both Bermuda and Guadeloupe have fought hard for the opportunity to face one another in today’s final and their efforts are a testament to the core values of rugby. Both teams have shown an unparalleled level of determination and respect for the game, as well as the opposition they have met along the way. They have shown discipline throughouttheir journey and solidarity amongst their teammates to get the job done under pressure. They have demonstrated integrity, morale and have been courageous in their campaigns, but above all, it has been their passion which has ultimately carried them here…to today’s final.
I would also like to recognize all of our wonderful sponsors and supporters that have helped to bringthis event together. It is testament to Bermuda’s resilience that we are able to host a Championship final less than two days after a Category 3 hurricane grazed our shores. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, from our Government services who helped to keep the airport and roads open, to ourdedicated partners at National Stadium who ensured the pitch would be ready to us, through to ourincredible suppliers and supporters who did not skip a beat in assisting us to prepare the venue forgame day. Win or lose, this is a proud day for Bermuda and for Guadeloupe.
