A Message from Mrs. Earle
Happy New Year! Here we are in 2020, a new year and a new decade fresh with possibilities. There is
nothing quite like that feeling of being able to set goals, start anew and look forward to opportunities to
grow. We hope all of our students are as excited as we are to start this New Year.
Some New Year information and reminders!
School starts at 7:55. Students should be in their homerooms at that time. Our school day
starts with an important time for all of us to begin our day together with prayer. The important
announcements and preparation done in homerooms and classrooms are also critical for success. We set
the expectation of being on time to help students prepare for those same expectations in high school, in
college and in future careers. If students are not in classrooms at 7:55 they will need to report to the
office for a tardy slip. Thank you for your help.
The weather outside has been wonderful but will quickly be frightful! Please remember to send
students with hats, gloves and boots for recess. Outdoor recess is held unless the temperature is
zero or below or we have rain and inclement weather. Children benefit from this short amount of time to
expend energy and socialize but it can be nippy! We are expecting snow to still be on the ground on
Monday!
Mark your calendars for Catholic Schools Week and our school Open House. Our Open House will be
from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 26. Current students will be able to visit their classroom
for next year. We will be offering an incentive to all families who refer a family to St. Matthias! Hope to
see you there!
Our School Counselor, Ms. Acosta, will be organizing the Life Talks for our Fifth Grade. These talks will
be held in spring and will include Sixth Grade this year as well. While this is an important part of student
development, we recognize parents as their children’s primary educators so you will have the opportunity
to opt out your child for this session.
Like the Home and School Facebook page! Home and School is an important part of our community
and an excellent way to connect families with the school. If you are a Facebook user, please like the

Father Dave gave an amazing homily this week about the Wise Men and the meaning of their gifts. Ask
your children to tell you about their “golden’” era and all the possibilities still ahead of them. We learned
so much and were also reminded that we are all called to live loving lives, caring for and respecting
others and following Jesus with “prayer and praising, voices raising, worshiping God on high!”
Sincerely,
Karen Earle

Our community Outreach this year will be to collect items for the Hope Center in Waukesha during
Catholic School Week! Please see the flyer in this week’s mailer for most needed items.
Ski Club
Ski Club will meet tonight at Alpine Valley from 4:00-9:00. Future dates will be January 17 and 24, as well
as February 7 and 21. Watch for Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Caporale representing our group. We try to
gather in the main concessions area near the fireplace. Don't worry if you haven't turned in your
paperwork yet, just bring it along, or we will have forms available.
Help Needed
The Scholastic Book Fair will occur Wednesday, January 22 through the Open House on Sunday, January
26. More details to come including an exciting new e-wallet option. At this time we are looking for volunteers to help set up Friday afternoon, January 17 starting at 1:00 and going until complete. Even an
hour would help, it’s a big job and any help is appreciated. Please contact Mrs. Hilber at
[email protected] or Dori Tooke at [email protected] if you can lend a hand.
