The 4th grade class had to
do a fruit and vegetable
project. The reason we
did this project was be-
cause we were studying
healthy food in science.
We each chose an object
and made it out of fruit
and vegetables. We made
flags, birds, flowers, but-
terflies, penguins, guinea
pigs, people, volcanoes,
Speech Competition Last week, Saint Theresa’s held a speech
competition for the middle school.
The judges had a difficult time making their
decisions, but in the end there was a First
Place tie between Freddie and Casey. Second
Place was awarded to Monica.
These finalists will be attending the Regional
Competition next week in Bridgeport.

Dear Talking Tiger,
I’ve worked hard this year in math and
reading, and I don’t want to forget it all
over the summer. Can you give me
some advice?
Sincerely,
Spring Fever
Dear Actor,
One thing you can do is read a lot of
books over the summer. For math, you
know the math packet the teachers
give you for summer vacation? Well,
don’t do it all at once in the beginning
or at the end. Space it all out over
break. It will stay fresher in your mind
that way. Good luck!
Sincerely, Talking Tiger

The year has truly flown by. It is hard
to believe there are only a few weeks left
before summer break. If your family
would like to sponsor the end of the year
Typing Challenge awards, please send
in $10. We would be delighted to turn it
into an iTunes or Target gift card for
you.
So what’s been going on in the computer
lab these days? The 8th Grade has been
working on virtual tours of St.
Theresa’s, both filming and editing their
footage. The 7th Grade has been
working on creating videos to help their
fellow students understand the steps of
the STEM process, while the 6th Grade
is planning their hypothetical
pilgrimage to a holy site for 5 to 7 days
keeping within their $3,000 budget and
tracking it all in Excel.
The 5th and 4th grades are doing their
final Blue Ribbon testing this week and
have done a great job bringing you their
features in the eNews, A Talk with…
and the opinion polls with a bit of
hyperlinks and videoing thrown in for
fun. The 3rd Grade did a great job
creating all the pieces for their Mother’s
Day Tea, with a focus on Word and
Publisher. The 2nd Grade has also been
working with Publisher, creating their
cards and signs for the school. The 1st
Grade has been building math concept
skills while working on navigating the
school network and internet. The
kindergartens have also been working
on navigating the school network,
logging in, recognizing browser
windows, how to move among them and
using the task bar. They will rule the
world some day. Pre-K 5, I will miss all
your smiling faces this summer. Keep
up the good work on your computers
this summer! Remember to maximize
your screens. :)
It has been a great year working with
your children. Thank you! Mrs.

Dear St. Theresa School Parents,
If you filled out a financial aid form for the 2011-12
school year, please make an appointment to see me
during the first week of June so that we can review the
results.
We just received the 2011-12 calendar from the Diocese
and I hope to have a draft out to you as soon as
possible.
The talent show practice scheduled for tomorrow
afternoon has been rescheduled for Monday, June 6th,
from 3:30 to 5:00pm. The talent show is tentatively
scheduled for Wednesday, June 15th at 1:30pm.
The Home School Association meeting this Tuesday
will begin at 6:30pm. K-8 students are asked to go to
their homerooms until the performance at 7:00 pm.
Please remember that the dress code is red, white or
blue. No jeans, sneakers or flip-flops.
PLEASE note that if your tuition or assessment is still
unpaid, you need to take care of it immediately so that
we can close out this year, hopefully with a balanced
budget. As always, do not hesitate to call me or Dawn
in the business office with any questions.
I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening.

Gospel Value of the Month — May
Monthly Virtue: Compassion
By Mrs. Stratton
Did you know that having compassion means more than just caring about someone
and understanding his pain? If you are showing compassion, YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
In scripture, God tells us over and over how important this value is. I have been very proud of our 8th graders
for memorizing an entire chapter of the Bible throughout this year; and as it turns out, much of the chapter
they now know by heart (Romans 12), talks about how we should show compassion. Listen to what Paul says:
“Love must be sincere….Be devoted to one another in brotherly love….Outdo one another in showing
honor….Share with God’s people who are in need ….
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn…. Live in harmony with one another… “ (Romans
12:9-15)
We need to ACT on our concern, and here at Saint Theresa I think we already do a pretty good job of this. I see
COMPASSION when:
…we raise over $600 by doing chores, to send to suffering children in Haiti.
…we visit the elderly at Saint Joseph’s Manor and let them know they are loved.
…we write to our pen pals in inner-city Bridgeport who can’t wait to hear from us!
…we give a hug to a friend who is hurt… or just feeling lonely… on the playground.
…we collect and clean toys for needy children who don’t have many of their own.
…our older kids take the hands of our Kindergartners during a fire drill to help them feel safe and unafraid.
Let’s challenge ourselves to do even better with showing compassion this month. Let’s put ourselves in the
shoes of others and not only feel their struggles, but also commit to trying to help more, to DO SOMETHING.
Give a hug, plan a visit, write a note, save up some money to give away, SMILE at someone who’s sad. Don’t
think you can’t make a difference, because YOU CAN! That’s what compassion is all about.
(Also, remember that I would love to add a picture of YOU caught in an act of compassion to the Gospel Value
bulletin board, so please bring me any photos you have to highlight how “Saint Theresa’s Shows Compassion”.)
