Wow…what a week! I know that we are all going in a million directions and I am so grateful for the assistance you are giving your teens to stay focused and positive. Every year I say I am going to decrease my commitments, but honestly, when they involve family and friends, it is difficult to cut back. I have so enjoyed the conversations I have had with students this week who are very mindful of their blessings and the sacrifices their families have made for them. In preparing for next semester we note the progress made in our students and the amazing contributions they have made in our programs and community reputation. Because so many community leaders have seen our students in action, the expectations of students who attend The Cottage School are extraordinarily positive. Many of the invalid and less than flattering stereotypes associated with LD teens are replaced with the reality of talented, responsible and successful teens. Of course this acceptance bodes well for the teen and the school, but in the larger picture, this perception shift also opens the door of opportunity for increased tolerance for all people with unique learning styles. There are two significant staff changes as we begin Semester II. Last week, academic counselor, Kristen Bell, delivered her letter of resignation to me effective this semester. Abby and Lynn will be continuing to work as the counseling team for the remainder of this school year. Also, please welcome After School Program Administrator, Dr. Nancy Wadel. Nancy comes to us with years of teaching and administrative experience in Fulton County. She has already met many of the after school parents and looks forward to meeting the remainder. She will be the point person for all things ASP beginning January 6th. Her office is in building H and she will be available every afternoon that the ASP is in session. As we wind down this first, but frantic, semester, take time to notice the positive changes in your teen and in your family. School failure and frustration affects the entire family! As a teen learns to dodge and weave, become invisible and defend against the unpredictable emotional blows that come their way when their school situation is hopeless, they create an environment of anxiety, negative expectations and despair. All those who love them experience the angst. Relationships are strained. Tension fills the air for a significant amount of family time. When that teen begins to experience the school day as one that is filled with learning, rewards and positive messages, their mood lightens, the family can relax and times together are more enjoyable for all. I hope that your holiday time is filled with an abundance of warm and joyful family time!
Happy Holidays and a Very Happy New Year!

Jacque’s Note
Dear Cottage School Boosters and Parents, I would like to start by thanking you for the overwhelming level of support in staffing our Concession Stand over the first months of this year’s basketball campaign. All shifts were covered, allowing the Booster Club to retain this vital stream of revenue to support the Athletic Department. Looking ahead, there are still some unclaimed shifts for the second semester, in particular shifts associated with the year ending Middle School and Varsity Basketball Tournaments. Please look over your calendars and commit to the shift that fits best with your schedule. You may either claim the shift by responding to the Sign-Up Genius e-mail released in November, or by contacting me directly at [email protected] or 678-250-5120. Again, thank you for your time and dedication. Sincerely, Lyle Cutchin Assistant Athletic Director
