I n order to celebrate the arrival of winter while staying in the sun, we decided to pay tribute to the work of American photographer Slim Aarons, who we are delighted to have among our collections. Entitled Winter in the Sun, this new selection of photographs allows us to make the work of this

one-of-a-kind artist accessible. He is renowned for having revealed the extravagance of the lifestyles of show business celebrities in the 1950s to '80s. Combining private life and leisure activities, their garden parties and cocktail evenings took place around azure blue swimming pools, surrounded by idyllic landscapes, seen from the terraces and gardens of modernist villas designed by the most en vogue architects, such as Edgar J. Kaufmann's villa, designed by Richard Neutra. Appreciated for the narration and spectacle of his compositions, we find in Slim Aarons the same Californian pop aesthetic that is characteristic of David Hockney's paintings. Likewise, we invite you to plunge yourself into this dazzling and colourful photographic world where summer never seems to end.

HIÊN LÂM DUC - Travel NEW ARTIST

Chine, province du Yunnan I - 40 x 50 cm - Open edition - (Other formats and finishes available)

A French photographer born in 1966 in Laos on the banks of the Mekong, Hiên Lâm Duc presents Mékong,

Histoires d’Hommes, possibly one of his most personal series. It is full of very sincere and moving portraits and scenes from everyday life. These touching photographs accurately convey his feelings, as he mentions in his travel diary:

"Emotions race over me like tropical rains, compelling, salutary and all-powerful." After experiencing the exodus, touring the world and covering the main conflicts from 1990 to 2002 as a humanitarian and press photographer for the Vu agency, this major photojournalist and arts school graduate decided with this serie, to return to his roots.

LAURENT DEQUICK - Urban NEW WORKS

L aurent Dequick’s work is dedicated to the representation of urban space. Faced with the multiplicity of signals emitted by

the city – the lights, noise, population density – the artist does not want to resign himself to making a choice. Since no single shot can capture the whole, the photographer chooses not to choose. He superimposes, juxtaposes and inlays photographs so as to express the energy of New York City as faithfully as possible. In order to express in images this “congestion” of urban

life, the photographer fits together photographs representing architectural complexes, highways and people, all with the same intensity. He condenses the images like the city condenses the sum of the lives of all of its inhabitants. Dequick’s style is reminiscent of cubism in its somewhat abstract rendering. He also represents permanent movement and time: “Photographing living spaces involves representing time passing, if only through evocation. As a photographer, I think it’s a nice challenge.”

Centrale thermique - 40 x 50 cm - Open edition (Other formats and finishes available)

A urélien Villette devotes part of his work to pho-tographing abandoned

architecture such as industrial, cultural and political buildings from which all human activity has disappeared. With concern for detail, he offers a new perspec-tive on these old timeworn sites. According great importance to lighting and the materials that make up the composition, he ac-centuates the formal and spatial characteristics of these sites and contributes to restoring a sense of their majesty.

LAURENT BAHEUX - Nature NEW WORKS

L aurent Baheux travels the length and breadth of the African continent. Moved by

the strength and fragility of the last great mammals, the artist photo-graphs a natural world that is under threat. Always in black and white, like early photography, Laurent Baheux provides us with timeless images that are both sublime and tragic. The artist represents our suffering planet, heading for an ineluctable demise: “Whether I like it or not, my work on the animal kingdom participates in testifying to a fading world. “

F rom 1950 to 1980, Slim Aarons photographs the Jet Set and gilded glamour of Hollywood. His characters are celebrities, photographed

in the luxurious settings of their own homes, often by the pool. The fashion, design and architecture of a bygone era become photographic subjects in their own right. Slim Aarons’ style reflects the Jet Set that he photographs: it is perfectly flawless.

A couple in work and in life, the American duo Formento+Formento (Richeille, artistic director and BJ, photographer)

approach photography through stagings that favour the imagination. Richeille comes from the fashion world, and BJ from the art world. Their shared experiences and complicity quickly

gave rise to a well-honed combination of styles and influences. Excursion into philosophy comes from a series especially produced for YellowKorner in a castle near Paris. It presents their model, Lauren – a chic and glamorous woman – in distressing situations, resembling the cinema of Alfred Hitchcock or David Lynch.

Fashion - LEE JEFFRIESNEW WORKS

Rome II - 60 x 60 cm - 500 Copies - (Other formats and finishes available)

W hile Lee Jeffries’ work focuses on the representation of poverty, his work is devoid of miserabi-

lism. The models are homeless people that he met in Europe and the United States. Jeffries works exclusively in black and white and his prints are highly contrasted. He chooses frontal views and tight framing around the face. The shallow depth of field and neutral backgrounds bring out the contrasts and details. The artist

insists on the structure of the face and works wrinkles like furrows. The photograph becomes a record of injustice and suffering. His portraits are hieratic and true nobility emanates from his characters. By elevating the “outcasts” to the ranks of models, the photographer transforms his characters into symbols. They are torn from the streets, becoming the subjects of a work of art shown in galleries or museums.

LAURENT NIVALLE - Sport & Technic NEW ARTIST

F rench photographer Laurent Nivalle deve-loped his own tech-

nique through experimentation and is now a recognised figure in the photography world. His work has been published in Paris Match, L’Uomo Vogue, and GQ Magaz ine . The “Le Mans Classic” series presents a unique approach to the eponymous race. The Le Mans Classic race as-sembles all of the most pres-tigious car brands. The em-blematic personalities of the 24H du Mans and some legen-dary cars are brought together for this occasion.

Dream & Creation - ALASTAIR MAGNALDO

A l a s t a i r M a g n a l d o invents a world and composes his works

like paintings. Magnaldo sends us through the looking glass to revive the dreamlike qualities of childhood. His work is also about a kind of paradise that has been lost forever: “What interests me is the false naivety o f ch i ldren and the i r f ree way of looking at the world. These ways of seeing are later crushed by the reality of life. The children represented symbolise the spectators. So I’m inviting the latter to see, through their eyes, the children that they once were. “
