“We Will Listen to Our God!”
Jeremiah 42:1-17
All of us should sense the
crossroads at which we are.
Because of this we ought to sense the need for wisdom…
Jerusalem had just been destroyed by Babylon. Most of Judah had been taken away into
captivity, but a remnant remained…
Purpose:
to see what we must do at all crossroads (decision making points) in our life
If we will listen to our God we
must do the following three
things as revealed through
out text:
I Willingly Seek God (vv 1-6)
A. He Must be Sought in All Honesty
Our short sightedness cannot determine what is for our good or for our detriment
in the long run!

James 1:5-6
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, Who gives to all men
generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one
who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”
Matthew 21:22
“And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.”
II Willingly Wait for God (vv 7-12) A. God’s Guidance is Never
Hurried
B. God’s Guidance Often Develops Slowly

hurry, but God isn’t!”

“Blessed are those who wait on the Lord.”
Isaiah 49:23
“…Those who hopefully wit for Me will not be put to shame.”
“Patience is a virtue that often carries a lot of wait.”

III Willingly Obey God (vv 13-17)
A. Not to Insist on Our Preferences
B. Must Endure the Lord’s Chastening
Isaiah 1:19
“If you be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.”

Conclusion and Summary
Each of us assembled here this morning are at crossroads. How are we
going to decide which way to turn? Unlike the remnant of Judah, let us
willingly SEEK, WAIT, and OBEY the guidance of the Lord. Let us listen to
our God!
