our GOALS1. Educate Greek-affiliated Berkeley students about waste reduction2. Establish and improve recycling, composting, and reuse systems in Greek chapters3. Increase recycling, composting, and reuse rates to reduce total volume of waste sent to landfills4. Train sustainability chairs to conduct waste audits5. Support campus zero-waste initiative by inputing the campus universal signage into chapter houses

our APPROACH1. PROCUREMENTPurchase all materials with $15,345 budget including: signage, recycling bins, e-waste bins, compost bins, compost bag liners, reuse shelves, clothing racks, and re-usable shopping bags.

2. DISTRIBUTION - Organize Greek-wide bin distribution - Monitor use of materials and reallocate between chapters as needed

3. EDUCATION - Educate all participating chapters’ sustainability chairs about waste reduction through presentations and e-mails - Develop informational hand-outs as a resource- Advise chapters to improve waste systems by bin placement and education strategies- Train sustainability chairs to conduct waste audits

4. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS- Conduct pre and post intervention waste audits at all participating chapters- Measured waste by difference in volume percent in categories of Landfill, Compost, Bottles and Cans, Paper, E-Waste, and Re-usable Items

Data Explanation: This data shows diversion of non-landfill waste into the newly installed recycling and compost bins, we’re making progress after only one semester! Next steps include: - Continuing to strive to have all compost and recycling in their own bins- Encouraging more houses to educate their members on sustainability- Maintain their new systems and add composting if they have not already- There are now a total of 16 houses that compost! MORE TO COME!
