Ubicada entre una sierra y un lago, la decisión primordial de enterrar un piso de la biblioteca se debió a un principio del paisajismo chino citado por Shu que aconseja que los edificios que se encuentran esa situación geográfica no deben ser prominentes.

Por otra parte, y siempre según Wang Shu, la ubicación del pabellón central sobre el agua, una sala donde se lee poesía y filosofía, ocurre porque es el lugar en donde se da el equilibrio exacto entre el hombre y la naturaleza. El método de construcción en este caso es tradicional, de hormigón armado.
