Partnership in Ministry: Kairos
and Walk to Emmaus Sign
Memorandum of Understanding
Walk to Emmaus and Kairos Prison Ministry announce the renewal of
the Memorandum of Understanding between the two ministries in order
to celebrate the partnership between the organizations, invite local
Emmaus and Kairos communities to collaborate and form new
partnerships, and encourage Emmaus and Kairos communities to
engage in conversations that will advance the purpose of sharing God’s
love with all.
Both Walk to Emmaus and Kairos Prison Ministry have been working
together for many years. Many who have participated in a weekend
Walk to Emmaus and currently serving in Emmaus, are active in Kairos
Prison Ministry teams as well.
The Memorandum of Understanding states that Walk to Emmaus and
Kairos Prison Ministry acknowledge that the two organizations journey
together as covenant people in community, seeking spiritual growth and
transformation under the guidance of Jesus Christ. The Emmaus and
Kairos ministries seek to learn together and to strengthen each other so
that more and more people will receive the grace and love of God.

President’s Message

CCWTE Summer 2015 Newsletter Page 2
Dear Emmaus Family,
I Cor. 15:58 tells us, “Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because
you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” This message was renewed in my
heart at the recent Spring Walks in Easton. We witnessed several “firsts” at this set of
Walks: (1) At the Men’s Walk, the first “baptism”/public profession of faith by one of
the pilgrims. (2) At the Closing event of the Women’s Walk, we witnessed, I believe
for the first time, a literal “wave” of celebration by the pilgrims themselves for each of
the pilgrims before they spoke. Of the many great Closings that I’ve been privileged to be a part of, this was undoubtedly the most
enthusiastic, and the most joyous! God, in both instances, in a very tangible way, reminded me of why we do this………..for the
lives that He is able to touch, and the eternal impact that God is able to bring about in the lives of others through this amazing min-
istry called Walk to Emmaus. All the praise goes to Him!
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the community for their awesome response to our request for sponsoring of addi-
tional pilgrims for the Spring Walks! We ended up more than doubling our pilgrim numbers in the weeks leading up to the Walks.
(I’d ask that we continue to pray that God would lead each of us to sponsor that one person or couple in our church, or in our circle
of friends, that would be blessed by, and be a blessing to, the Emmaus community.) And those sponsors didn’t stop there. As a
result of their inviting their pilgrims to attend the next area gathering/potluck, the Fresno area gathering had 60 in attendance, our
largest turnout in years. This included between 5 and 10 single pilgrims or couples. This was a great reminder to us that good
sponsorship doesn’t end with the Walks. A great next step for sponsors to take would be to invite their pilgrims to work the next
Walk alongside them! These two steps might be the best way that we can assure that our pilgrims will stay invested in, and grow
into, our Emmaus community.
Another great example of that continued investment and personal commitment to Emmaus are Keith and Tammy Kizziar, who
took it upon themselves to breathe new life into the Porterville area gathering, which had become largely inactive over the last
couple of years. As a result of their taking personal responsibility in changing that, they had an inaugural turnout of 26 at last
month’s gathering! Praise God!
Believe it or not, we have another exciting set of Walks coming up, just around the corner. Lay Directors Vince Bertoni and
Teresa Dietrich will be leading our men and women into the Summer Walks at Westminster Pres (Men: July 9-12, Women: July
16-19). Please keep Vince and Teresa, as well as the pilgrims and the teams covered in prayer over the coming weeks, that God
would build a hedge of protection around each of them, and keep them in good health. We know that God is ultimately in control
as He knits together His teams and groups of pilgrims. Please sponsor a pilgrim if you’re able. If you’re not able to work on a live
-in team, please encourage the pilgrims by writing Agape, attending Candlelight and Closing, and lifting them up in prayer, both
before and during the Walks.
In closing, I’d like to ask that each of you continue to lift up our Emmaus brother, Arthur Wint, in prayer for strength and heal-
ing, and most of all, that God’s will be done in his life.
In His Unfaltering Grip,
Norm

Welcome New Pilgrims to the
Emmaus Community! CCWTE extends a very warm welcome to all those who just completed their Walk this past March. We pray that you
will become involved in this blessed ministry — through serving on teams, sponsoring pilgrims, praying, and
attending services associated with the Walks (Candlelight, Mananitas, and Closing). Before sponsoring your first
pilgrim, it is important that you become fully aware of all that is involved in sponsorship. Sponsorship information is
presented at the Gatherings and/or it can be found on-line at www.ccwte.org. You can find an application to serve on a
team at the same site also. Just be sure and get your application in as early as possible. As a new pilgrim, you will be
serving on either the agape or kitchen team if you desire a live-in position. Serving on either the love team or candle-
light team is also an option and does not require you to live on-site the entire weekend. Again, welcome! If you have
any question, you may contact any of the board members listed on page 4.

Sponsorship “talk” now available on-line
The Board is excited to announce that complete sponsorship information —
including everything contained in the sponsorship talk — is now available
on-line and you can download and/or print the entire document and keep it
for future reference.
Simply go to www.ccwte.org (our website) and click on “Sponsorship”
located in the menu line at the top of the page.
You will find a wealth of information — everything you need to be a good sponsor, as well as guidelines for new pilgrim
selection. Other topics covered include a comprehensive sponsorship checklist, post-Walk responsibilities of a sponsor, and a
sample letter you can use in order to obtain agape from the pilgrim’s friends and family. You can even request a pilgrim
application which is now available to everyone!
The board can’t stress enough how important good sponsorship and pilgrim selection are to the overall health of our Community.
It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to seriously and conscientiously follow the guidelines established. Please don’t
hesitate to contact a board member if you have any questions or concerns regarding sponsorship.
Agape Budget Addition In order to keep up with costs associated with administrating an Agape team, the board has voted to add a line item to the budget
for the express purpose of renting linens (tablecloths and napkins) for the feast, effective immediately. The regular Agape budget
will remain the same, but the Agape Boss will now have a designated amount specifically for linen rental.
This addition was made with the hope that everyone who is asked, would feel comfortable accepting the position of Agape Boss
without the worry of thinking they may have to contribute some of their own money.
CCWTE
Succession Guidelines
The following are suggested guidelines for how you should progress through the various positions on
an Emmaus team. First of all, submitting a work request EARLY is very important. But remember,
even if you are qualified for a certain position and sent in your work request early, a spot on any team
is not guaranteed. Each team position is prayerfully considered.
These guidelines are printed in each newsletter as a reminder for those who may have forgotten or
those new to the Community.
This makes you qualified to serve as a
silent table leader in the Talk Room or
as sound tech. The position of sound
tech requires special training and
those individuals are considered
members of the song team while on a
Walk. This position is also considered
equal with that of silent table leader
and thus qualifies the sound tech
to be available to serve as a speaker or
cha cha.
This makes you qualified to be a
designated table leader/speaker or a
cha cha. Table leader assignments
are made with care and are given to
those who have proven the ability to
lead a group, understand Emmaus,
listen, empathize, guide discussion,
and foster the development of the
table family.
One of the blessings of
Emmaus is that everyone
is on the same level. Yes,
you may serve as LD, but
then you go back to
working on teams —
and no team position is
any greater or less than
another.
4 This makes you qualified to serve as a
core team boss for a live-in
action team or for the love team.
It is very, very important that prior
to being selected to serve as a boss, you
have had enough experience working
in the background to ensure that you
understand the entire scope of the job.
5 To be an assistant lay
director you should have
progressed through steps one
through three and have given at
least one talk.
6 To be qualified as a lay
director candidate, you must have
progressed through steps one
through four, given two talks, and
served as a cha cha or assistant
lay director.
1 You must serve
several times on the
live-in action teams
(kitchen or agape) to
ensure that you under-
stand the entire scope of
each job.
