Should Limits Be Placed on the Number of Terms Elected
Officials Can Serve?
Why I Chose My Topic
Budget changes caused my Dad to lose his job; I wanted to explore decisions politicians make about budgeting and finance, and how term limits might affect decisions they make.
Research
Term limit- statutory limitation on the number of terms an elected official can serve
Became a national issue in late 1980s and early 1990s
September 1990- Oklahoma set term limits on state legislature
November 1990- Colorado followed suit1995- 21 states approved term limits
Research
Should term limits be set? Yes!
71% of people that participated in a telephone survey support term limits.
Three interviewees agree- term limits would prevent elected officials from thinking they own the office. Must be a break from their real job
