PHOTO MONTAGE
DESCRIPTION: A spiritaul themed photo montage
DATE: February 12, 2015
COURSE/INSTRUCTOR: Visual Comm 130 -Emily Kunz
PROGRAMS & TOOLS: Adobe Photoshop
OBJECTIVES: To create a seamlessly blended montage of multiple photos.
PROCESS: I took multiple images of my piano, hymnbook, and other
sheet music. I then did some of the basic edits on all of those photos.I used the piano
as the background and then using the lasso tool with a feather I
took sections of each of the other four photos and placed them on strategically.
I put them in circular pattern around the edge of the picture. I used the masking
tools to then blend the images together.I then added text and used the linear dodge
and screen layering on the different text. All of the design work and editing was
done in Photoshop.

LOGOS DESCRIPTION: Personally created logos for a business
DATE: February 18, 2015
COURSE/INSTRUCTOR: Visual Comm 130 -Emily Kunz
PROGRAMS & TOOLS: Adobe Illustrator
OBJECTIVES: To create three completely unique logos for a single company
PROCESS: The first thing I did was get out paper and a pencil and start
sketching. I was trying to convey movement and action and so my sketches
ended up having an aviation feel. I then went into illustrator and used the
shape tool to create all three images. I used the drop shadow effect on my top
image to give the logo more dimension. I used the Pathfinder -Divide tool on
the middle image to pull the triangles away from each other and create a V,
and I used the line segment tool to create the dotted lines on the third image.
-
BROCHURE DESCRIPTION: An original brochure and logo created for a business.
DATE: March 28, 2015
COURSE/INSTRUCTOR: Visual Comm 130 -Emily Kunz
PROGRAMS & TOOLS: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, & Adobe InDesign
OBJECTIVES: To create a brochure that creatively marketed a business.
PROCESS: I created this brochure using Indesign. I decided to use a gate fold, so that when you look at
the brochure you only see the aquarium and then you open the flaps to the vast ocean in the middle, and the
information on each of the flaps. Then if you turn the brochure over there is general information on the back.
I found my images through various searches online and then used photoshop to clip the back image, while
leaving the rest of the images intact. I used Illustrator to create the Ocean View logo as well as the scuba
masks that I used for the flaps of the brochure. I used the same font from my logo throughout the entire
brochure for a more uniform look, using both black and white font. I also tried to unify the entire
brochure by using similar colors and water scene images throughout the design.

PHOTO DESIGN DESCRIPTION: A design centering around a personally taken photograph.
DATE: February 6, 2015
COURSE/INSTRUCTOR: Visual Comm 130 -Emily Kunz
PROGRAMS & TOOLS: Adobe Photoshop
OBJECTIVES: To create a beautiful design centered around a well taken photograph,
and using a specific color scheme.
PROCESS: I took this photo of my daughter using natural lighting, her facing
into the image, and a clear focus. I then took the image into Photoshop and
adjusted the levels, vibrance/sat., selective color, and sharpness. I also chose to
make the background black and white to add contrast to the image.
I then began designing in the Photoshop program using the custom shape tool
for the frame and hearts and the eyedropper to select colors from the color wheel and her clothing..
-
EVENT AD DESCRIPTION: An advertisement for a charity event, using a scanned image.
DATE: January 30, 2015
COURSE/INSTRUCTOR: Visual Comm 130 -Emily Kunz
PROGRAMS & TOOLS: Microsoft Word & HP Photosmart Scanner
OBJECTIVES: To create a full-bleed color event advertisement using only a scanned
image and Microsoft Word.
PROCESS: I scanned the image of the dog into photoshop and then used
the tools to remove the text and blend and remove a logo that was placed
on the dogs fur. I then used Microsoft word to design the flier.
All of the colors on the flier were selected with the dropper tool directly from the image.

FLIER DESCRIPTION: To create a black & white flier
DATE: January 22, 2015
COURSE/INSTRUCTOR: Visual Comm 130 -Emily Kunz
PROGRAMS & TOOLS: Adobe InDesign
OBJECTIVES: To create a visually pleasing leadership conference flier in black & white.
PROCESS: I initially hand sketched my design ideas on paper. Then I took those
sketches and started to create a flier in the InDesign program. I used the shape
tool to create the black bars and smaller squares and I used the opacity tool to
fade out the image so that I could use it as a background. I used two variations
of the same font in order to give it some visual interest while still keeping it uniform.
The word leadership was emphasized in order to show that it was the focus of the conference.

STATIONARY DESCRIPTION: Stationary created around a newly crated logo
DATE: February 28, 2015
COURSE/INSTRUCTOR: Visual Comm 130 -Emily Kunz
PROGRAMS & TOOLS: Adobe Illustrator & Adobe InDesign
OBJECTIVES: To create a well designed stationary with a newly created logo and tie it
together with a business card.
PROCESS: I started with brainstorming and sketches. I tried several different company
and logo ideas and none of them really looked great. I finally came to the bow tie idea.
Originally, I had taken the text bowtieguy and modified it to the shape of a bow tie
, but after multiple people saying it was difficult to read, I created a new image of a
bow tie in illustrator and used the inner glow to give it some dimension. I then went
into InDesign to design the stationary and business cards. For the stationary, I decided
to give it a plaid background, to tie into the bow tie theme. I used the same text that I used
for the logo, for the business information. I also used the same blue color throughout the image.
-
BUSINESS CARD DESCRIPTION: A business card created to match the stationary from above project
DATE: February 28, 2015
COURSE/INSTRUCTOR: Visual Comm 130 -Emily Kunz
PROGRAMS & TOOLS: Adobe Illustrator & Adobe InDesign
OBJECTIVES: To create a business card that paired well with the previously
designed stationary and logo.
PROCESS: For the business cards, I thought it would be fun to have them
in a bow tie shape to tie the theme together, and then I used an enlarged
logo on one side and the plaid pattern with the text on the other side.
-
WEB PAGE DESCRIPTION: A web page centered around a previously created logo
DATE: March 10, 2015
COURSE/INSTRUCTOR: Visual Comm 130 -Emily Kunz
PROGRAMS & TOOLS: Text Wrangler
OBJECTIVES: To create a web page using HTML & CSS coding
PROCESS: I created a web page using Text Wrangler. I created an HTML document to set up
the text and main elements of the web page and then used CSS to style and edit those elements.
I was able to get my colors for the font, borders, and background from my logo. I used the
eyedropper selector tool in Photoshop/Illustrator to find the codes for my colors. I was also able
to find the information for my font in Illustrator under the File Info screen, and then I was able
to use the same font from my logo throughout my document..I used the W3Schools Validator and
the Chrome Debugging tool to help fix any errors I had with my coding and formatting, both in
CSS and HTML I changed the format of the list to remove the bullet points and have headers
with each list item. I also stylized the link to match the colors of my font and change color when
I hover over it..
