• Dramatic / Fantasize / OTT
(think trailer)
Video Synopsis?• e.g. sum up the Godfather in 2
sentences
• more difficult than writing the full script
• Language economy
• Force to focus on the main message
and audience
![Page 11: Video Production Workshop – R4D PLANNING 2009](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042607/5552e5deb4c90532498b529a/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)

SCRIPTWRITING
What are the five elements that make up a script?
• Who - characters
• What - plot (events/sequence of actions)
• When - year, season, day, etc.
• Where - setting
• Why - reason the story takes place
![Page 12: Video Production Workshop – R4D PLANNING 2009](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042607/5552e5deb4c90532498b529a/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
13/04/2011 12
SCRIPTWRITING
What is the structure of a script?
• Beginning introduces characters, setting,
and the story situation
• Middle highlights the conflicts, develops
characters, and sets up the resolution to the
story
• End Resolution of the story which resolves
the conflict or creates a “to be continued”
scenario to be explored…
![Page 13: Video Production Workshop – R4D PLANNING 2009](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042607/5552e5deb4c90532498b529a/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
13/04/2011 13
SCRIPTWRITING
CONSIDERATIONS• Number the scenes – remember overall duration
• Follow the what / when as far as detail written for
each scene
• Consider the time and resources available (lighting
etc – use exterior natural light)
• Could it be 1 take / use of music, a monalogue..BE
creative and make it fun and INTERESTING?
• AGAIN - Think about post-production so you have
an output to SHOW!!
![Page 14: Video Production Workshop – R4D PLANNING 2009](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042607/5552e5deb4c90532498b529a/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)

THE SHOOT• Shoot Plan
• The word shoot refers to a shooting session. If you think of everything you record as being part of a shoot
• Be clear about the purpose this shoot. You are shooting to end up with a 3-5 minute video. The best/ONLY way to achieve this is to carefully follow your planned script and storyboard. LOG all your shots carefully to save confusion in post.
![Page 29: Video Production Workshop – R4D PLANNING 2009](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042607/5552e5deb4c90532498b529a/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
13/04/2011 29
ASK YOURSELF
"What do I want this to look like on video?". You then
shoot (with direction) the action to achieve your goal.
Plan the approximate length of the shoot: How much
footage do you need to end up with, and how long will it
take you to get it?
