Welcome to Vic Park Little Athletics
Welcome to a shiny new Season at Vic Park LAC.
t is pleasing to note that this, our third season
ince the Club was established in 2013, sees us in
strong financial position.
We continue to grow stronger with every season
hat passes by and enjoy a wonderful influx ofnew parents who bring added enthusiasm and
trength to our core member of parents.
Welcome Everyone!
This year we have a strong and committed
number of returning parents who have
volunteered to help drive the club through
nother season to make up our committee.

Each volunteering outside of training and inter-
lub competition to ensure we have the best
possible season a Club can have.

Andrew Mansey
As a Club wed like to extend our very special
thanks to Andrew Mansey for the huge efforts
he has put in personally over the past two years
as Club President and founding member.
It is sad for us to have Andrew step down as
President however he continues to be a fountain
of knowledge that we can call upon over the
next 12months as he has agreed to stay on as
Treasurer.

Training
Vic Park LAC will continue to hold training every
Tuesday & Thursday from 3:45pm5:15pm.
Tuesdays: East Victoria Park Primary School
Thursdays: Gerry Archer Athletics Oval
(may revert to EVPPs)
Training will be led by our Head CoachGlenn
Bartlett supported by the two Kyles as in previousyears.
We offer two days of training providing flexibility
of attendance for athletes; train on multiple days
o enhance skills or simply attend either
dependent upon other commitments.
t is understood that Athletes may not be able to
ttend training on any given week. If an athletemisses training they are NOT precluded from
ttending the inter-club competition that week.
There is no requirement for parents to notify
Coach or Club if they will not be attending training
on any given week.
What to Wear & Bring? Shorts, t-shirt & running
hoes, hat (as it can get hot at training duringummer) and a water bottle.
Bringing out their Best
Athletes will want to practice their new found
skills at home. This should be encouraged,
providing they are using the correct techniques
and not picking up bad habits which could lead
to injuries.
The best way you can help your child is bylearning the correct techniques yourself to
reinforce the correct technique taught by the
coach to your child.
The coaches often need assistance at training
and would be very happy to teach you as well, in
exchange for your help at training.
Helping your child with athletics is a veryrewarding experience for both child and parent.
Which is why Little Athletics motto is;
Family, Fun and Fitness.

Seating Arrangements: We all like to sit together
as a Club in the grandstand. We recommend you
bring along chairs or blankets as the grandstand
whilst new is a bit hard to sit on for any extended
period of time.
The grandstand affords protection from both the
sun and other elements however it is still
recommended for maximum comfort throughoutthe day that you bring along jackets/tracksuits
(during the beginning of the season) along with
sunscreen and hats for the entire family.
Food/Drink:There is a canteen on-site which
serves hot and cold food & beverages. However
many families bring along their own cooler bags
ensuring athletes are feed and maintain fluid
levels.
Uniform: Our Club shirt and black shorts is to be
worn at inter-club competition. Please visit our
website for more detailed information on uniform
requirements. Below we identify where all badges
etc. are to be placed.
Inter Club Competition
We are a part of the Belmont Little Athletics
Centre (BLAC) and each weekend participate in
the inter-club Competition.
Commencing 8am, Sat 11 October 2014.
All new parents please be aware that you need
to arriveat least 15 minutes before the
commencement of the program to ensure your
child does not miss any age event.
Where: Gerry Archer Athletics Track
You can visit our website for an interactive link
to assist you in getting directions to the Track.
When: Every Saturday 8am until Christmas
This will change later in the season when
twilight competitions are introduced. Please
check the Seasons Purple Book and our
website for dates.
Parking:Easily accessible from Abernethy Road.
There is a large car parking areabe aware of
parking on the non-designated areas as parking
police regularly attend.4

Interacting with BLAC
At Inter-Club Competition
If you have any issues on the day of competition
with a result, an infraction or similar
parents/athletes are to speak directly to our Vic
Park LAC - Club Manager (Bronwyn Ife). Our Clu
Manager is responsible for all interactions with
BLAC officials and executives on competition day
About Results
Additionally if you have concerns with results tha
are recorded and stated within the online results
system (more on that later), parents are to
forward their concerns/issues again direct to the
Vic Park LAC - Records & Ranking Officer (Maia
Zuiderveld) who will liaise with BLAC on yourbehalf.
These systems have been set up by BLAC to assis
all members whilst ensuring a systematic and
appropriate process is followed.
Expectations at Inter-Club Comp
We have included within this Welcome Letter a
eparate inclusion; Whats expected at LAC.
We have found this is helpful for all parents and
thletes as it answers a number of general
questions with regards to how the inter-club
Competition is run; and what other club events
occur throughout the year.

Parent Roster at Inter-Club Comp
You would have no doubt heard about the
equirement that each Little Athletics Club has to
ulfil roles at all inter-club competitions.
Athletics is different to other sports such as
occer, football or hockey that require less people
o run an event. Little Athletics is like runningmany different sports at the same time, which is
why we need more parent involvement.
f the site roles are not fulfilled, there is a risk that
events simply don't run and the athletes (i.e. your
hildren) miss out or the day is delayed as Clubs
cramble to fulfil their roster commitments
which equals a very long day for all.
The number of times you are on during the
eason will be determined by the number of
athletes registered with Vic Park LAC.
The more athletes the more families to meet our
oster needs.
Roles are assigned to families, not individuals, toensure families can still look after small children.
Vic Park LAC currently has the following roles to
fulfil.
Set-up/Pack-Up (Club Effortthree times
throughout the season)
High Jump - Scissor Kick Key Official
Weekly (Rotated through identified parents
Parent Helpers3 each week (Rotation
based on calendar managed by Club
Manager)
Walks Judge (rotated through identified
parents).
If everyone rostered on to a particular duty
completes their commitment, we all get a fair g
Finally, if for any particular week you cannot fulfi
your rostered roleplease notify our Club
Manageras soon as possible, by email, by phoneor in person.
Your roster will then be swapped with another
family and you will accordingly take their next
scheduled role. This avoids other families being
asked at the last moment to double-shift.

Athlete Results
Vic Park LAC Athletes weekly results are uploaded
o the Results HQ website.

This fabulous system keeps an annual track of
each athletes weekly results including;
PBs, distances, times, heights and placing's.
PLEASE NOTE: It is recommended that you print
out results before the end of the season and
Athletes can then paste them into their Athletics
Book they receive upon registration.
As at the commencement of a new season the
prior years results are dumped from the system.
New Members will be provided log-on detailsonce their registration has been confirmed via Vic
Park LAC.
Returning Members can access the site usingthe same login credentials entered when they
registered.
Any queries about usernames and passwords
should be directed to the Belmont Centre via our
Club Manager.

Monthly Meetings
During the summer season we will have monthly
ommittee meetings, these meetings most often
will be held at training on a Tuesday to facilitate
n easy free-flow of information and discussion.
They will be publicised via Facebook and email.
Parents are warmly welcomed to engage within
our committee meetings and email suggestions
etc. to the committee via our Club Secretary.
Fundraising Opportunities
For the 2014/15 Summer Season Vic Park LAC
has been provided three (3) opportunities to
fundraise at the inter-club competition.

Head of FundraisingLisa Burgess will drive
these events with the support and involvement
of the rest of the Committee. Communication
about parent involvement will be provided at
appropriate junctions throughout the season.
Unsurprisingly we are always on the look out for
Sponsorship or local Community / Business
donations. If you know of anyone who you
believe would like to make such a donation we
would love to hear from you.
Other Events
In addition to the weekend inter-club
competition; there are annual events held that
are open to all athletes as well as some that areinvitation only. These include but are not limited
to;
Invitational Relay Track Teams
Bill & Betty Allsop Twilight Relays
Christmas Gift
As these events come up throughout the season
the Club will communicate with you accordingly.8

Event Marshalling
1. When any field event is called, athletes are to
marshal in front of the equipment shed, near the
marshal here sign.
2. When a track event is call, athletes marshal to
difference locations depending on the event as
ollows.;
Running and Hurdles 60m, 70m, 100m
Marshal near the start line of the 100m straight-
way in front of and at the far end of the
pectator stand.
200m
Marshal at the 200m start line on the opposite
ide (i.e opposite the spectator stand) of the tracknear the driveway entrance
Circular or Long Track
400m, 700m, 800m & 1500m runs and walks
Marshal beneath the large shade tent near the
MacDonalds tent on the inside of the track, near
he finish gates.
avelin & Turbo Jav
Marshal near the turnstyle.
Event Arena Access
3. Athletes are NOT permitted on the track or
ield unless participating in an event, or being
escorted to an event site.
4. Spectators are not permitted on the track or
field at any time. Site officials are not
considered spectators and may enter the field
when required to be on site, or escorting a
group of athletes.
5. Spectators may position themselves near an
event site, around the outer perimeter of the
track, but no closer than 10m to any site.
6. Parents, guardians and carers of athletes with
special needs may accompany their child to site,
but only after formal request to and approval
from the BLAC Executive Committee (usually
partitioned by their club).
7. Site officials and athletes must NOT enter or
exit the track and field area by crossing acrossthe arena, in particular in the vicinity of the
Javelin site. Athletes and Site Officials must
travel to their assigned event site by
circumventing the track to a point nearest to the
site.
Athletes will typically remain at site until all have
finished the event and then be escorted back to
the marshalling area by the SiteOfficials. Athletes may request early departure
from an event site from the Key Official (no one
else), but must exit the arena in an orderly and
safe manner, going around the outside of and
not directly across the arena,

reminded to take extreme care when crossing
the track to check for runners and walkers
competing in events.9

Uniforms and Equipment
9. Athletes' shirts are to be tucked in to their
horts for each event. Shirts may come untucked
n the course of competing in an running, hurdle
of walking race.
Athletes' shirts must be tucked in at the
ommencement of each trial for all field
events. An athlete with their shirt untucked may
isk disqualification,
Some leniency may be shown at Belmont Centre
events, usually through a reminder, however,
thletes that compete at State Events, such as
State Relays, Zones (quarter finals) and State
Championships (season finals) risk disqualification
without notice. This is a WAALA ruling.
10. Athletes must wear their standard club shirtsnd shorts when competing. Their athlete
number patch must be affixed to the centre of the
ront of the shirt, their age group patch affixed on
he top, left of their short and the IGA sponsor
patch on the top, right of their shirt. BLAC Centre
100, 200, etc, badges may be affixed to the shirt
leeves.
11. Athletes are encouraged to wear a hat andake a water bottle to field event sites and to site
under the shade provided.
12. Athletes permitted to wear metal spiked
hoes as per the WAALA regulations, must not
wear these to or from an event site.
13. Athletes not permitted to wear spiked shoes
re also not permitted to wear shoes capable of
having spikes (i.e you cannot simply remove the
pikes in order to compete).
14. Typically spiked shoes are not permitted for
any event in which the athlete risks running on
another athlete's person such as circular/long
track events in which the athletes can merge to
a single lane.
Spikes are permitted for certain field events as
allowed by WAALA rules. Spikes, when used at
State events and certain other venues with
asphalt tracks (e.g. State Athletics Centre inFloreat) are generally restricted.
Typically 5-6mm "Christmas tree" spikes are
permitted as these are considered to cause
negligible damage to the track. These spikes
appear as tiered pyramids with a slightly
flattened tip.
Please note that we have been made aware that
spikes will be checked against official templates
at the State Athletics Centre. If an athlete'sspikes do not comply, they will be denied entry
to the arena and the event, until the problem
can be rectified.
15. Athletes may use starting blocks for shot
track events. For Belmont Centre competition,
athletes are required provide their own starting
blocks, which are expected to comply with
WAALA standards. For State Events WAALA
provide starting blocks. Athletes are discourage
from using starting blocks unless they have
undergone proper training and experience.

Event Marshalling and Site
Behaviour
16. Athletes must remain orderly while waiting to
participate in any event, whether they are waiting
or a race, or their trials at a field
event. Consistent misbehaviour on site, may
esult in the athlete being disqualified from that
event and sent back to their club area.
17. Athletes are encouraged to arrive at Saturday
or Friday competitions at least 15 minutes before
he official start time (e.g. 7:45am for an 8am
tart), as events commence marshalling at the
cheduled time and athletes may miss the call and
he event.
18. An athlete who turns up late for an event thathas already marshalled and taken to site may be
prevented from competing in that event. Late
thletes are urged to contact a track or field
official to gain access to the site, but it remains
he decision of the site Key Official.
f a late athlete is permitted to compete, they
must commence competition at the same stage
he other athletes are. For example, if all athletest a high jump have completed all 3 trials for the
irst 2 heights, the late athlete must commence
heir trials at the third height.
Another example would be all long jump athletes
having completed their first or three trails - the
ate athlete will commence their trials at the
econd trial affording them only the 2 remaining
rials.
19. Athletes not in attendance at an event will
be recorded as DNS - Did Not Start and will not
have that event recorded,
20. Athletes competing in an event may chose
to withdraw themselves from that event. For
field events the result will only reflect the trials
to that point and a failed trial for any
subsequent attempt.
For running and walking events they will record
a DNC - Did Not Complete, but will be credited
with participation in that event for the purposes
of Centre Championship qualification.
21. Athletes cannot, according to WAALA be
denied an opportunity to compete in any event
and cannot be pulled from any event, except frounruly behaviour.

End of Season Championships &
Finals
The end of the summer season is marked by 3
major events.
Centre Championships:
The end of the Belmont Centre competition
nvolves the running of the Centre Championships
onducted over 3 consecutive weeks and
ollowing the ABC Programs.
Athletes may compete in any or all event for
which they have qualified during the earlier part
of the season, by having been recorded as
ompeting in at least 3 of a particular
event. Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd
place getters.
Zones or State Quarter Finals:
At the end of the season all athletes are eligible to
ompete in the State Zones, Quarter Finals
usually at the Gosnells Athletic Centre in
Langford).
This event, conducted over 2 days, brings together
thletes from all centres in the zone. U7-U9 use
his event as their State Finals, while U10-U15
ompete in order to qualify to compete in the
ensuing State Final.
Usually the first 4-5 place getters in any final event
will qualify to compete at State Championships,
U16-U17 automatically qualify for State
Championships and do not need to compete at
Zones
Zones is run on a strict time schedule and
athletes MUST marshal for their event 1/2 hour
before the scheduled start time. Failure to
marshal may deny an athlete participation.
State Championships:
The final event for the summer Little Athletics'
Calendar. All qualified U10-U17 athletes may
register to compete.
As for Zones, the competition is run on a strict
time schedule and athletes MUST marshal 1/2
hour prior to the scheduled event time, when
called.
Failure to marshal may prevent an athlete from
competing. 1st, 2nd and 3rd, place getters in allfinals are presented with medals and are eligible
to compete for Australia in the Asia Pacific Little
Athletics Games.
Athlete in the U10+ age groups are representing
the Belmont Centre, not their local club, and
must wear the Belmont shirt. U7-U9's
competing at Zones are permitted to wear their
local club uniform.
