Animal Husbandry Research and DevelopmentP. N. Bhat | M. P. Yadav
The development of animal husbandry has been envisaged by sciensts and those who
are in know of science of agriculture as an integral part of the system of diversified
agriculture. With its large livestock populaon, India has vast potenal for meeng the
growing needs of million of tonnes of livestock products such as milk, eggs, meat and
wool. This sector has the greatest potenal in creang new self-sustaining jobs in
villages if the knowledge base in the sub-sector of veterinary and animal husbandry
technology is fully ulized. If this sector is improved and implemented in terms of
transforming India by creang entrepreneurships, small and large, poverty can be
removed in five years. With the livestock and allied sub-sectors assuming an important
role in the naonal economy, there is a requirement to improve the present state of
knowledge gathering and informaon disseminaon. Although considerable resources
have been directed towards collecng and disseminang informaon on basic crops,
very li le a enon has been given to collecng, analysing and disseminang
informaon on livestock and allied sub-sectors. It is necessary that livestock units are
made financially viable, so that they are implemented both in theory and skill
development. This will be generang a service provider, small groups of industry which
becomes a technology catalyser in a low-educated farming community. This requires
several iniaves, one of which is to upgrade the knowledge and skill base and make the
informaon available to students, teachers, planners and farmers.

This series aims at fulfilling the knowledge needs of postgraduate learners in agriculture and
biology, focussing on self-directed learning. Keeping this point in full view, these volumes would
dilate on contemporary information in chosen themes in a pertinent, but brief backdrop of historical
knowledge, with appropriate textual information laced with relevant illustrations. Care has been
exercised to integrate examples from the Indian subcontinent, so that the learners can relate to
concepts and principles quickly. The most critical aspect is the inclusion of specific case studies and
interactive-mode of learning, so that learners can learn about the day-to-day issues and application
of theory that surround the nominated theme effectively. Every effort has been meticulously made
to see that the books launched under this series are easily readable and user friendly.
