MISE EN SCENE
• Red filter –There has been a red
filter used a few times throughout the opening sequence of ‘Vertigo’. It has been placed over the top of the close up of the woman’s eye. By adding the red filter over the top it could represent danger, blood and death.
CINEMATOGRAPHY
EXTREME CLOSE UP’S:
There has been many extreme close
ups used throughout the opening
sequence. They were mainly of the
woman's facial features, for example
her lips and eye. By using extreme
close ups, it hides information from
the audience.
TILTING:
They have used a shot were it tilts
up from the woman’s lips to her eye.
TRACKING:
They have used a shot were it tracks
into an extreme close up of the
woman’s eye.
CINEMATOGRAPHY
EDITING
FREEZE FRAME:
Alfred Hitchcock has used a freeze frame shot of
the woman’s lips just before the titles come on the
screen.
GRAPHIC EFFECTS:
Alfred Hitchcock has used a graphic swirl effect
which would have been done in post production.
The swirls were different colours, shapes and sizes.
Also, there was a graphic match to the eye on the
previous shot.
SOUND
The sound track used throughout the opening
sequence of ‘Vertigo’ was very dull and dark, it also
used very low tones.
There is a sting as the shot freeze frames on the
woman’s lips.QUESTIONS
