Gardens are the result of a collaboration between art and nature - Penelope HobhouseTo some, gardening is therapy for the mind. Art is therapy for my soul. - RenoJust living is not enough. One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower. - Hans Christian AndersenNothing is more the child of art than a garden. - Sir Walter Scott
What is BUZZ? Consulting dictionaries we are given traditional definitions but what does BUZZ actually represent in culture today? Asking people what associations they have with the word 'buzz' gave us our starting point and continued to be our inspiration for this project. The answers varied but surprisingly most Canadians and people living in English speaking countries gave us the following 5 words: feeling, intoxication, energy, uplifting energy, 'lift'. In European countries people who learned English as a second language mostly gave us the following 5 words: sound, bees/insects, electricity, vibration, gossip. Marrying these brought our project to life.
Let us take you on a journey through our BUZZ:Buzz has spread all over the garden; lifting you up over the pond charged with life energy and intoxicating swaths of planting that are vibrating with the sounds of bees and insects energetically fluttering about the flowers while you arrive to the top where sculptures glow and twinkle powered by electricity. There you are. On top. Being lifted by the buzz and are feeling slightly buzzed yourself.
There are some key takeaways you can find scattered around during your walk. How many can you find? - This is the interactive part of the project. Throughout the garden there are 15 messages inconspicuously placed such that a person walking through can get involved and pay closer attention to details, find the messages and count how many they managed to uncover. Thus the garden walk becomes a journey of discovery.
