THE ORDER FOR THE
VENERATION OF THE CROSS
After Blessed be the name of the Lord ...,
the Chanters assemble at the north door of theiconostasion, preceded by the Acolytes
carrying candles and the hexapteryga (but notthe processional cross). A tray is placed on the
Holy Table, holding the Precious Cross whichis held upright and surrounded with fresh
flowers and three candles. The Priest takes thecenser and censes the Precious Cross nine
times. He then makes three reverences, kissesthe Holy Table, lifts the tray above his head,
and exits through the north door. TheChanters softly intone Holy God, Holy
Mighty ..., as the procession begins around
the interior periphery of the temple.

When the procession reaches the center of the
solea, it circles around the table three times.
The Priest stops before the table, facing east,raises the tray and intones:

The priest places the tray on the table, takes
the censer, and then censes the Precious Crosson all four sides, as he chants:
Priest Save, O Lord, Your people, and
bless Your inheritance; grant victory to therulers against all of their adversaries, and
preserve Your commonwealth by Yourholy Cross.

The Chanters repeat the hymn twice:

Precious Cross. After blessing the faithful, he
