Function Description
Standard voltage 500ma regulator with two inputs. The output regulated
voltage is driven onto the Vdd BUS. Dual input nodes are available to support
higher current applications
Example Applications
The typical usage is to connect the input pins to a voltage input source, a DC
plug connector in this case or other higher voltage input source. The regulator
accepts this higher voltage source as input, then regulates the output voltage
onto the Vdd power bus rail.

Functional Description
Microchip PICMicro based FlexTile. 28 pin. The FlexTile has several options
selected by the jumper settings. Features include Real Time Clock (RTC)
32.768Khz crystal, HS Crystal, TTL Half sized Oscillator block, TTL to RS232
converter, 8 pin 2mm ICD header. PIC18F subparts are pre-programmed with
a muvium bootloader for programming with the java language from the
factory. PIC16F parts are blank and require a microchip programmer to
program.
RTC – ( RealTime Clock ) JUMPERS RTSOSC connect the 32.768Khz crystal to the T1OSCO (RC0) and
T1OSCI pins ( RC1 ) of the PICMicro.
RTC Enabled RTC Disabled
HS Crystal
Depending on the SubPart a HS Crystal of either 10Mhz, 12Mhz or 20Mhz is
available to connect to the oscillator pins of the PICMicro when both XTAL
jumpers are set.. By default these jumpers are set.
Note: You should not set both the XTAL and TTLOSC jumpers.

HS Crystal Enabled ( Factory Setting)
HS Crystal Disabled
TTL-HALF-SIZE- Oscillator
If you have a specific frequency you need to work with you can use a TTL half
size canned oscillator in the available by setting the two TTLOSC jumpers.
TTL Oscillator Enabled TTL Oscillator Disabled
Note: You should not set both the XTAL and TTLOSC jumpers.
TTL RS232 Converter
The RX/TX pins of the PicMicro are connected to the external bus either as TTL
or as converted to RS232 by the onboard MAX232 converter chip. Typically if
you are communicating with an external device, PC for example you will use
the RS232 signal. If you are communicating with the another flextile using
UART you would usually use the TTL.

Muvium Bootloader
PIC18F devices are pre-programmed with a muvium bootloader and can be
programmed serially using the java language with the integrated
development tools within VBB.

This first example (left ) is powered by the USB bus and connects the serial
pins to the USB serial. The USB DTR is used as a Reset signal for automated
reset into bootmode by the Arduino programmer.
The second example ( right ) extends the first example to include a dual power

Properties
Functional Description
FTDI RS232 is a USB Serial converter component typically used to create a
virtual serial port connection on a PC with the embedded device
• TX/RX pins are the UART TTL RS232 signal.
• D+ , D- are the differential pair input connections with a USB
connector.
• VUSB is the input from the USB Power BUS
• DTR is the Data Terminal Ready output signal from the FT232RL
• 3V3 is a regulated voltage that can be used for circuit regulation
• RESET is a reset signal for the FT232RL
The device has some jumper setting options regarding power supply.
JUMPER1 – Connects the VUSB to the power
rail Vdd which enables the power to come from
VUSB
JUMPER2 – Connects the regulated 3V3 from
the FT232RL to be connected to Vdd power rail
enabling the 5V USB to be isolated from Vdd
and have the circuit be a 3V3 circuit without
requiring an additional regulator.

This example shows a 5V PICMicro eg
PIC18F2620 , connected to the
FT232RL with the USB Bus powering
the circuit at 5V through the JUMPER1

eg, PIC18LF2620, connected to the
FT232RL with the 3V3 regulated
output from the FT232RLbeing used to
power Vdd for the circuit at 3V3
through the JUMPER2 setting on the

Functional Description
USB Connection ‘B’ exposes the different pair D- and D+ which is to be
connected to the matching differential pair of an USB peripheral device such
as the FT232L. Two VBus pins are available to provide power from the USB
bus. The JUMPER1 and JUMPER 2 connect VBus to Vdd through a poly fuse
for short circuit protection and schottky diode for protection from multiple
power supplies on the Vdd bus. Only one of the two jumpers needs to be
connected to supply Vdd with VBus.

MCLR Capacitor
By default the FlexTile-MCLR pin connects to the microchip PIC MCLR pin
through a small capacitor. MCLR is pulled up so an external signal that pulls
the FlexTile-MCLR pin low will only momentarily pull the PIC MCLR low. Thus a
low signal causes a instant reset but cannot hold the PIC in reset. You can
short the capacitor using the CMCLR jumper which means a low signal on the
FlexTile-MCLR pin can hold the PIC in reset mode.

Functional Description
The generic SMD component families allow for component level sub-circuits
to be included in AutoFAB designs. Generally these are user populated devices
documented by the schematic documentation breadboard components.
Note: schematic documentation components do not simulate so if you are
building a subcircuit you need to model that using other breadboard
components or develop a model using OpenVBB. See OpenVBB Component
Development.

VBB-00031 – VDDVSS
Part Number VBB-00031
Name VDDVSS
Group Generic
FlexTile
SubParts ROADMAP: Resistor values
6. VBB-00031 7. VDD Breakout pins 8. VSS (GND) Breakout pins
Breadboard Model
Functional Description
Breaks out VSS and VDD on a pin header for access to multimeters and
probes.
Brings VDD and VSS onto the routing node list so you can connect to VDD
and VSS from the circuit.
Use with the built in VDD and VSS net components.

Example Applications
If you need to use VDD or VSS in your circuit then you need to include this
FlexTile. You can wire components directly to the VDD or VSS
Or you can tie the VBB-00031 to the built-in Vdd and Vss and then use those
through out the circuit.
Note * When using the Vdd/Gnd components you need to use wire links for
them to function.
