Van Voorden propellers are known in the
maritime world for their high efficiency, low
noise levels and excellent material quality.
Ship propellers Design and production
The propellers of Van Voorden are designed and manufactured in our
foundry in Zaltbommel according to the specifications of the client. In order
to anticipate the market with regards to propellers with a high capacity
density, Van Voorden has developed, together with MARIN, a unique and
highly advanced expert system for the design and analyses of ship propellers.
With this system new designs are achieved through a mix of knowledge from
previously made propellers and new assessments. With this expert system,
we are now also able to recommend you the choice of your propulsion
system during the early stages of ship design.
Application area
The Van Voorden Next Generation®
Propeller is extremely suitable in the
following sectors:
• Inland shipping
• Fishery
• Tug and push boats

Return
We aim at a highest efficiency, combined with the lowest possible production of
sound and vibrations for every type of ship, according to the requirement of the
customer. The propeller is a vital but also a vulnerable part of the ship. In this way
efficiency has a substantial influence on your fuel cost and, therefore, the
exploitation of your ship. As equally important is the life span and reparability of the
propeller.
Should unexpected damage occur to your propeller, you can call on our repair
workshops all over the world. This will keep you up to speed and an optimum
efficiency will be the result.
Product quality
The designing, casting and machining
of the propellers is based in
Zaltbommel, under strict supervision
of our quality department. The com-
pany is fully certified ISO 9001:2000.
At the same time all our products can
be delivered according to all accepted
qualification bureaux like Lloyds
Register, Bureau Veritas and
Germanische Lloyd.
Specifications
The maximum propeller diameter is
4.000 mm. High grade nickel alumi-
nium bronze guarantees excellent
mechanical properties and a long life
span.
Blades for cpp-installations
Besides fixed pitch propellers, Van Voorden
also manufactures cpp blades, irrespective
of the make of the controllable propeller
installation. The blades can be manu-
factured in alloys nickel aluminium bronze
and stainless steel.
Our prices are very competitive. Taking the
data of your controllable propeller
installation as a starting-point, we would
gladly discuss the various possibilities with
you.

Superior® nozzles

14.1
Van Voorden Superior® Nozzle
15.1
Application area
The Van Voorden Superior® nozzle
is extremely suitable in the
following sectors:
• Inland shipping
• Fishery
• Tug and push boats
A nozzle produces the greatest
gain in thrust at relatively low
speeds.
Furthermore, calculations also
showed that a larger discharge
diameter would also improve
efficiency. The nozzle derives its high
efficiency from an improved version
of the existing nozzle, a circular wing
around the propeller. The section
profile of this wing
generates a higher speed on the inside
than on the outside of the nozzle
and achieves its thrust through the
pressure difference that this creates.
Efficiency improvements in nozzle
technology have up to now mainly
been sought in increasing the system
diameter with all the disadvantages
that this entails, such as a correspon-
dingly larger installation size.
Advantages
A propeller in combination with a nozzle gives considerable benefit in:
• Thrust
• Fuel savings
• Improved speed
• Reduced noise and vibration
Construction
Steel and stainless steel plates are used for the construction of the
The Van Voorden Superior®. In the interior of the nozzle all of the components are fully
continuously welded from both sides. This method guarantees the reliability
and durability that is such a characteristic of Van Voorden’s products.
Specifications
The nozzles are designed and manufactured for propellers with a diameter of
max. 4.000 mm.
Practical experiences
In combination with a specially
developed propeller, the new nozzle
has been used successfully in both
inland shipping and the fishing industry.
Ships fitted with this new combination
appear not only to have an increase in
thrust, but are also free of unpleasant
vibrations and disturbing noises.
In short: in practice The Van Voorden
Superior® shows its strengths in more
than one area!
Return
The Van Voorden Superior® nozzle is
characterised by its slender, cambered
profile that makes no concessions to the
system diameter (outside diameter nozzle).
Advanced CFD-analyses
(Computational Fluid Dynamics) of tens of
profiles showed that a more slender profile
with more curvature clearly improved the
nozzle.

The dredging industry world wide are using our products. Especially the wear
resistance of Mohard® that was developed in our own laboratory, is unique.
The composition of this material can vary, depending on the wall thickness
and required applications.
Also double walled pipeline systems, to be used on board of dredging ships,
is part of our speciality. The exterior consists of a welded construction of nor-
mal steel, the inner pipe is made out of exchangeable Mohard® casting parts.

Consequences of propeller damage:
Minor damage (e.g.: damage
to blade edge, small cracks,
erosion)
• Efficiency loss and higher fuel
consumption
• Deterioration of propeller due to
increased cavitation
• Increased noise and vibrations
and therefore uncomfortable
living conditions on board
12
Heavy damage (e.g.: bent blades,
missing blade sections, strongly
eroded blade sections, etc)
• Vibration; risk of damage to propeller
shaft bearings, seals, gearbox, engine
• Engine overload can result in engine
damage
• Serious loss of efficiency: increased
fuel consumption, loss of thrust
• Deterioration of propeller due to
increased cavitation
• High level of noise and vibrations
