Israel and the US are currently working towards a time when any drug that is approved under Israeli standards will automatically be approved by the US FDA [Pharmaceutical Business News: 14, 10 Aug 1994]. Last month, it was announced that the US and Israel have agreed to coordinate activities governing approval of drugs.

The bureaucracy involved in licensing Israeli drugs for distribution in the US is expected to be reduced by the agreement. It is also hoped that the pharmaceutical sector of Israel will be boosted and that joint research and development efforts between the countries will be stimulated.

Israeli institutions will receive guidance from FDA delegates and, in collaboration with the Israel Ministry of Health, standards will be set up that are in line with those of the FDA.
