Indo-French Thematic School & Workshop on Water Treatment and
Management, 28-29 March 2018
The workshop was organized under Indo-French Water Network Program to develop water based research
network and to address the diversified water challenges ranging from various fundamental research based issues
to treatment and management.
Two days’ program covered poster presentation and invited lectures by experienced researchers from universities,
research organization and industries. Brain storming session on the theme - ‘Water treatment technology and
delivery to the society: challenges and opportunities’, was held to quantify integrated approach with the synergy
of technology, management, policy and social awareness. The thematic school and workshop was customized for
students, educators, researchers, scientists, engineers and industrialists, engaged in a wide range of water related
research & applications.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Rajendra Dobhal (Director General - Uttarakhand State Council for Science &
Technology (UCOST)), Dr. Savita (Director-Forest Research Institute (FRI) and Vice Chancellor - FRI
University), Dr. Suresh Kumar (Director - CoES, UPES), Shri. N. Ravi Shanker (Former Chief Secretary,
Uttarakhand), Dr. Julie Mendret, (Associate Professor, Institute Européen des Membranes (IEM), UMR
Université Montpellier).
Dr. Suresh Kumar in his welcome note mentioned about the Importance and Significance of Water Conservation. He
encouraged students to conserve the water and motivated students and scholars to think into the direction of preservation of
water. Quote MK Gandhi’s words ‘Be the Change you want to see in the world’ Dr. Suresh with the gathering of Scientist
and Scholars pledged to save and conserve the water.

Workshop on “NANOMATERIALS FOR BIOSENSOR”, 11th December 2017
One day Indo – Slovenia workshop on “Nanomaterials for Biosensors” was organized on 11th December 2017 by R&D
Office. The objective of workshop was to discuss about the nanomaterials used in biosensing and their application. It also
covered the recent developments in nanomaterials for the fabrication of biosensor devices for healthcare diagnostics, food
freshness and bioprocessing. The various processes used for synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials, their
applications and commercialization were conferred.
Guest and Speaker of the workshop was Dr. Maja Leitgeb, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from
University of Maribor, Slovenia. Dr. Maja explained the importance of biosensor as an analytical device, used for the
detection of an analyte (DNAs of bacteria or viruses, or proteins) that combines a biological component with a
physicochemical detector. The main requirements for biosensor based studies such as: valid research approach and
economic feasibility in identification of a target molecule, availability of a suitable biological recognition element, and the
potential for disposable portable detection systems were also discussed.

Navarachanaa 2018
Navarachanaa 2018, a National Project Competition held at SVVV, Indore, M.P in which more than 120 teams participated
from all over India and presented their projects. Our B.Tech Power system Engineering (VI Semester) students, Ms.
Tanishka Agarwal & Mr. Ayush Goyal have achieved “EKLAVYA AWARD” for their Project Titled “Waste to Energy”
and a cash award of Rs. 51,000/-. Along, Dr. Praveen Ghodke - Mentor has been awarded with Best Mentor
“DRONACHARYA AWARD.
Short note on project “Waste to Energy” Plastic waste disposal and excessive use of fossil fuels has caused
great environment concerns in the world. Both plastic and petroleum
derived fuels are hydrocarbons that contain the elements of carbon
and hydrogen. The difference between them is that the plastic
molecules have longer carbon chains than those in LPG, petrol, and
diesel fuels. Therefore, it is possible to convert plastic waste into fuels. This work is all about a reactor which is developed
in order to produce fuel from Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). The overall calorific value of the products is around 43.3
MJ/kg. Therefore, the energy profit is high for this process.

Covering making, using, selling, offering to sell, importing,
etc. of any product of the human intellect, such as an idea,
invention, expression, unique name, business method,
industrial process, or chemical formula, which the court is
willing to protect against unauthorized use by others;
Intellectual Properties including patents, copyrights,
trademarks and designs; Highlights of Indian Patent Act -
Provisional vs. Complete Specification (strategic decision)
