FOREWORD
In August 1972 the Manual of Job Standards and Specificationsfor the 22 principal jobs in the clothing industry in Hong Kong preparedby the Training Board was published and put on sale. Based on these jobstandards and specifications the Training Board has now completed itswork of drawing up model on~the~job training programmes for jobs at thetechnologistf technician and craftsman levels. The outcome is thismanual*
The aim of preparing this manual of recommended trainingprogrammes is two-fold • to provide employers with ready-made systematicon-the-job training programmes for training their apprentices/traineesand, for those employers who wish to prepare their own training programmesfto provide them with guidelines which should assist them in their task.While these recommended programmes are provided as guidelines, we wouldstrongly urge employers, in the interest of good training, to adhere tothem as closely as possible both with respect to the content and the timesallocated.
In the particular case of clothing machine mechanics, knittingmachine mechanics and plant maintenance mechanics, it will be a definiteadvantage to employer^ to take on apprentices who have completed therelevant one-year full-time basic craft course at a Technical Institute.
We would strongly advise that proper work attitute andawareness of the need for safe working and of statutory requirementsregarding the safe use of plant and machinery should be emphasizedthroughout the training period.
We are confident that these model training programmes, whenapplied, would raise the standard of training which would in turn resultin a more efficient workforce.
