TALKING ABOUT PRAYER Good morning, all! Today I want to talk about prayer. Do you ever pray?
Any special time or place? *Before I go to bed or dinner.* I understand that.
The first prayer we learned was one our mother taught us. "Now I lay me
down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I die before I wake, I pray
the Lord my soul to take." She taught us that prayer when we were not old
enough yet to accept Christ. It's important to ask Jesus to take us to His
Heavenly home. Is there anything you can't pray for? Can we pray for
everything? *Yes.*
There are a couple of things I found I want to share with you: "Prayer is
not the spare wheel you pull out when you're in trouble, but the steering wheel
that directs you on the right path all of your life." This other one I need to
remember every day: "When God solves your problems you have faith in His
ability. When He does not solve your problems, He has faith in YOUR
ability."
Do you feel comfortable talking to God? *I forget what I am going to say."
A lot of us have stage fright. God is good, all the time! All the time, God is
good! When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them. When
you have blessings, remember someone has prayed for you. Pat reads James
5:16: "Therefore confess your sins to one another, so that you may be healed.
The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective."
Dear God, we ask that You listen when we pray and we in turn will listen for
Your answer and do our best when You leave the answer up to us. In Your
Son's Precious Name we pray, Amen

FIVE QUESTIONS!
This month we find out a little bit more about a fairly new venture in the
community, Huffman Berry Farm, 7910 E 300 N. It will soon be time to pick
those berries! (Thanks to Roberta Huffman for answering our questions!)
1. What inspired the beginning of the Huffman Berry Farm and when did
it begin?
Inspired by a love
for local
strawberries & a
bumper crop in
my garden.
Locally grown
strawberries have
more flavor & are
so much better in
freezer jam. I
have fond
memories of
picking
strawberries and
wanted to provide the opportunity for our community to do the same. The
strawberries are better than those purchased in a store and the fruit of our labor
makes them that much sweeter. We planted our first plants in the spring of
2014 which bore fruit in 2015. It has been a blessing to serve & meet so
many people in the picking season.
2. How many acres does the Berry Farm cover---are there plans to
expand?
Two acres. I haven’t ruled out expansion if the customer base will sustain it.
3. How many hands are involved in the operation of the Berry Farm and
what are their responsibilities?
Planting requires at least 4 people, a tractor driver, one on the planter, and 2
walking behind to cover the plants. During harvest 6-8 hands help pick and
run the stand. Mowing, renovation, and cultivation is handled by a couple
more mangers throughout the year. If the plants need covered to protect from
frost, we call in the troops!
4. What varieties of strawberries can we expect to pick this year?
Earliglow, Honeyoye, and Jewel.
5. Will there be any other kind of berries added to the strawberry
acreage or will you stick with strawberries only?
At this time, there are no plans to venture into production of other kinds of
berries. The stand usually open the latter part of May through the first couple
of weeks of June.

THANKS FOR THE LIDS! + Thanks to all who have been saving plastic lids
for Hershey Elementary. A Girl Scout troop is
sponsoring the collection, with a goal of 800
pounds of lids. The lids are melted down and
used to make Buddy Benches, each bench takes
400 pounds of lids. As of April 14, 200 pounds
of lids have been collected at Hershey. Keep up
the good work towards helping Hershey to get 2
benches!
MUGS & MUFFINS: KOOKING FOR KAIROS Mugs and Muffins varied at their April gathering, 'dividing to conquer'
two tasks. Some baked cookies for Clayton Temple to take to Kairos while
others assembled decorations for the Mother-Daughter Banquet on May 18.
Then there were those who assisted with both. Anita and Ruth Davidson, and
Pat Sense have the cookie making to a scientific assembly line. The whole
town of Buck Creek smelled like fresh baked cookies! 30 dozen chocolate
chip cookies were baked at the church. Anita baked 18 more dozen at home!
Mugs & Muffins meets the third Tuesday of each month, at the church,
9:30am-11:00am. Come and see what we’re about! (Thanks to Kay Miller.)
HAITI KIDS SAY THANKS The Church School at Pastor Victor's church in Haiti has made known
through communication from Pastor Victor that they are so appreciative of our
financial and prayerful support of their kindergarteners who receive no money
from the state of Haiti for their education. Our funds also benefit their
teachers because the teachers only get paid if there are funds left over after the
students’ needs are met. In December 2016, we were able to send $500 to aid
their second semester expenses and our January 2017 5th Sunday offering
raised $195. April 30th will be another 5th Sunday offering and will put 1/3 of
this year in the past. After April, July 30th will be the next 5th Sunday before
the first semester of the next school year. We will plan to send funds in
September. Please pray for guidance from The Lord to lead you in your
giving to the 5th Sunday offerings. The teachers and the students thank you
and they thank The Lord for your love and support!!! -Jan Prosser
