Notes from Fr. John
T oday we celebrate the Twelfth Sunday in ordinary Time. The Easer celebration is complete. Our Lord’s Ascension and Pentecost are histo- ry. The feast of the Holy Trinity and the Body and Blood of Christ are just behind us. Today we go
back to Ordinary Time. I think it fits with the begin-ning of summer. At least most of us hope our sum-mer might be a bit less hectic. We look for long days to relax and regroup. Maybe it comes from my days as a teacher, but I looked forward to summer. Whether the summer was hot or cold, wet or dry, it was simpler. The readings this weekend remind us that God will take care of us. In the busy hectic days or in the lazy days of summer, God is with us. I hope everyone gets a chance to slow down this summer and feel God’s touch. This past week St. Kieran was put on the docket with Facilities and Construction for the Archdiocese of Chicago. What this means is that shortly we will have an archdiocesan representative assigned to the parish to begin talking about the scope of work to be done on the church building. This piece of work will include the renovation of the church and the bathrooms in the church. We will talk to contractors and get prices for the work ahead. Once that is complete we will then think about timelines and contracts. I would once again like to
thank everyone who has continued to support the thank everyone who has continued to support the Teach Who Christ Is campaign. Your support, along with everyone who weekly support the work of the parish makes these renovations possible. The last few weeks we have begun to run an article posting the Renew My Church 101 Meeting. This is a meeting for staffs, priests, and any parishioners who want to attend to find out what Renew My Church Is all about and how each parish will be involved. These first sessions are being held during the day which is hard for those working, but it is a start at continued dialogue and education on Renew My Church. Please consider attending if you are able. This week I also was able to celebrate the Jubilee’s of the Sisters of St. Francis in Mishawaka. I was there especially for Sr. Madonna Rougeau who celebrated her golden jubilee. Sr. Madonna is a good friend who worked tirelessly at St. James hospital for over ten years. It was great to see her celebrating 50 of service to God and the people. She was having a great day. Congratulations to Sr. Madonna and our prayers are with you. Finally, I just want everyone to hear it from me. We are closing down both parishes for the week of the Fourth of July. We will check messages, but only be answering emergencies. So now is the time to get your business done.

Registration for 2017-2018 Religious Education classes is ongoing. Please complete the registration form sent home with your children, or download one from the St. Kieran website, and return it to the St. Agnes/St. Kieran Religious Education Office as soon as possible. Registration deadline is September 1, but don’t wait...some classes are getting pretty full already! All 2016/2017 tuition and fees must be paid in full before your registration for 2017/2018 will be accepted. We are in need of teachers and adult aides for the upcoming year. If you think this worthwhile ministry might be for you, call 708/754-0713. Teri Klopp will be happy to discuss requirements and expectations with you.
“Let the children come to me . . .
for of such is the Kingdom of God.” Our Jesus Meets the Children Statue has been refurbished and gleams like brand new! We invite you to come and spend some time with Jesus, sit on his lap, and renew yourself in the quiet presence of the Lord. The statue of Jesus sits just across the drive from the northeast doors of the church. It was commissioned by our late Pastor, Rev. William Eddy, and is dedicated to the memory of Thomas McDonnell, one of our founding parishioners. One of Father Eddy’s great friends, Patrick Rankin, was the artist that was commissioned with the project. Pat actually just repaired the statue, cleaned it, and added a final coating of urethane. Visit Pat’s website at https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/
patrick-rankin.html to see many samples of Pat’s artwork and our own Jesus statue in the artist’s work room. The statue has been a focal point of many pictures over the years. Please take your own pictures and forward them to [email protected] and we’ll get them in the parish bulletin for all to see!
Where are you
in your Faith life?
Are you the spouse of a Catholic who has perhaps been attending Mass, feeling quite Catholic in
many ways, but just never having formalized it?
Are your children enrolled it our Religious Education program and you would like to
join them in the sacraments?
Are you interested in completing that relationship by formally making a profession of faith,
being confirmed and taking an active part at the Eucharistic table?
The long catechumenate process may not be needed for everyone. If you are interested in discussing further how you might complete your initiation into the Catholic faith, please call the Religious Education Office, 708-754-0713 and leave a message for Joe Sopron.
